Journal cjpez's Journal: The (Hopefully) Great Slashdot You-Know-What Blackout! 5

Update: T(H)GSWB is officially over. Feel free to return to Slashdot's usual Weevil-related madness. I'll post another journal entry soon for discussion of how things went.

Update: No, I won't. That takes work, and I'm bored with this now. So if you want executive summaries, you'll have to make 'em yourself. :)

Well, the time is now upon us. Remember not to talk about you-know-what for the remainder of this week. After the twenty-seventh, however, feel free to continue the highly animated you-know-what discussions we've always enjoyed here on Slashdot.

If you've got any concerns or questions, though, feel free to use this forum. And in the meantime, here's a new SIG to use during the blackout (lameness filters might mangle it a bit):

<STRONG>Stop talking about <A HREF="http://slashdot.org/~cjpez/journal/7282">You Know What</A>!!!</STRONG>

If you use it, this sig will serve as a gentle reminder to posters that dicussion of you-know-whats should be discouraged during the week.

Thanks for all the support!

The (Hopefully) Great Slashdot You-Know-What Blackout!

While I admire your tenacity, I can't help but question your intent. Why put so much credence into a single comment by Taco? You are a savvy guy, I'll bet. Surely you understand that offhand remarks said in online forums can't always be taken too seriously? At any rate, I would argue that the you-know-what is proving fruitless.
    • Well, I suppose I'll have to make an exception to the you-know-what blackout to address this question. I guess that's what this forum is for, eh? So here goes:

      1. Taco's comment disparaging weevil-related discussions was only the tip of the iceberg here. Here's a smattering of quotes which clearly indicate the Slashdot editors' prejudice against weevil discussions:
        • "Like people who talk about weevils really matter" - chrisd
        • "[We] were thinking that we might impliment an anti-weevil lameness filter in the future. Those really aren't the kind of discussions we want on our site." - Hemos
        • "Anyone talking about weevils on /. deserves to get modded down. It's just the way things work." - CmdrTaco
        • "Weevils suck. People who talk about weevils suck. Weevil discussions make me want to puke." - timothy
So you can see that the original comment that Taco made was entirely representative of the anti-weevil propoganda that's been sweeping through Slashdot lately. The only way we can reverse this tide of corruption is by showing the "editors" exactly what kind of site Slashdot would be if people stopped talking about weevils altogether.
      2. You argue that T(H)GSWB is proving fruitless - I would disagree. I've been keeping a close watch on Slashdot since Monday, and so far, with the exception of this one post, I haven't seen one mention of weevils! It's working! Slashdot has become a dried-out husk, with no weevil-related discussions going on at all! The "editors" must be quaking in their boots right now, what with all the lack of weevil comments. I think we're making our point very well. There are some other blackouts [slashdot.org] going on that may need some help, though.
I hope those two points address your concerns and will convince you to contribute to the cause.
      • You know what? I'm an idiot.
Thank you for pointing that out :)
        • :P No harm done. It's easy to be taken in by Taco's anti-weevil-discussion propoganda. Don't feel bad about it, get angry! A wonderful future of weevil discussions awaits us all!

          :)

  • Congrats cjpez on your apparent victory! I'm glad things worked out for you. Feel free to head over to my update to get a gander at how everyone did in their respective *-outs.

Cheers! (Where everybody knows your name)
