Submission + - World's Largest Reboot (

jtillots writes: "Yesterday, exhibitors at the yearly SuperComputing Conference (SC|07) experienced two power outages during the open day of the exhibition floor. Happening within a few seconds of each other, the power outage didn't seem to be caused by the large amount of machinery in the convention center, but was a general power grid failure happening over a large section of the city. What is the sound of hundreds of admins collectively saying "crap" at the same time?"

Submission + - Microsoft and Yahoo (re)considering merging

thrillseeker writes: According to the WSJ, Microsoft and Yahoo "are taking a fresh look at a merger of the two companies or some kind of match-up that would pair their companies' respective strengths", in order to defend against the juggernaut of Google. Personally, I can ignore and not use either of them just as well combined as separate, but it probably makes sense to some executive somewhere.
