Journal blinder's Journal: Raise 11
Well, had a nice pleasant morning. Got an envelope from my boss, he came up to the client site this morning, and in it was a little note about how I just got a 5.5% raise effective this week.
He was telling me how things are finally starting to improve, and that the outlook for next year is, well, he used the word, "bullish." This from a guy who is actually very pratical and, well sometimes is accused of being pessimistic (he's one of two guys that run the company I work for, they make a perfect partnership, one is very "head in the clouds" while the other, as I said, is very (sometimes too) down to earth).
We have our bi-annual meeting tonight, and he summed it up, that prospects are picking up, and that opportunities are finally starting to become more reality than just empty talk. So, I'm wondering, does this mean that IT, or at least application development/consulting is starting to pick itself up? I'm not completely convinced it is, but our company is a bit different (yeah, who's isn't)... in that we are not effected (so far) by the whole off-shore thing in that is not the kind of work we do, nor is it the kind we seek, may be a different story in 3-5 years, but hopefully I would have moved on by then... and that we have developed some pretty strong partnerships with some very stable businesses. Unique situation? Yeah, I think so in this day and age.
Anyway, I wasn't expecting a raise, nor am I the type to demand them when I feel I am being paid fairly... and even when I think I'm getting the shank, I don't, I just get the fuck out. Pretty simple.
Anyway, a nice surprise to start a Wednesday morning.

One way to look at it... The late nineties saw major application overhaul at established businesses due to Y2K. The dot-com buble saw lots of new businesses rise and fall. Now, all those applications that were updated 5 years ago for Y2K are looking crufty again.

Exactly... and that's pretty much what our company is. Oh yeah of course, and that's the way it works for us as well, in fact we just had our bi-annual meeting where they (the two principles) review the numbers, and we met our numbers for this year, fully booked the rest of this year, and already have a solid foot hold on next year.
