Journal Zarf's Journal: Career moves and the USB Pen-Drive monster... 1

The USB pen-drive thing refuses to go to bed and I can't stand my current job. I would rather spend time doing things like chasing down how to fix the RedHat distro to automagically use USB pendrives, thumbdrives, or whatever you want to call them... I'd rather spend time harassing Gnome developers and KDE developers trying to get a better solution to the whole USB device problem... but I can't. Sadly my job is not to do those things.

Here's my big question. How do I get to the point that it is my job? Barring that how do I position myself so I will have a job in five years? What skills should I get next? What areas can I pour my attention into that will bear fruit in future employment bliss? I already have a BS in CS and part of an MS... what else should I do to propel myself out of maintenance hell and into new development Nirvana? Do you even know?

Career moves and the USB Pen-Drive monster...

  • Move to France, and work with those guys. I don't think you want to do that, so call SuSE up. After I get MagicBox 1.2 up (almost there, we just got the new template engine working) the nerdfarm site will start to provide the dynamic functions.

Then you can get famous with your pendrive stuff.

In all seriousness though, why not apply to SuSE? You aren't that far away, and they can arrange all the visa stuff. You are more than educated and qualified, it sounds like. You could contribute a lot to pushing

If you didn't have to work so hard, you'd have more time to be depressed.
