Trying something new

I haven't written in here for a very long time. It feels a bit negligent. A long while ago I was all about the Matrix Essays. I continue to watch those films when they are on HBO and catch many amazing insights, but I have been trying to go a bit deeper lately. My latest project, while from my perspective exactly along the same lines, does not perfectly intersect with "The Matrix" - it is more directly philosophy-related, and to make matters worse I have invited my father (who is a powerful apologetic, but frankly not in the mold you'd expect) to participate. We'll see where it goes.

Link here. Not blogspot or any other kind of profit-seeking kind of site. I maintain this myself, at my own expense.

I won't give in to despair

I know all about the thing where people dredge up previously highly-moderated comments and re-post them as their own, and they always get highly moderated again. OK. I see that it renders the moderation system essentially castrated. But still I will persist in trying to voice an opinion, generally middle-of-the-way moderated, but even so it's my opinion and I won't give in to the idea that opinions don't matter simply because a system can be gamed.

I've posted my last post. I am now going to dedicate myself solely to modding people Overrated. Anyone who has a highly-scored comment can expect to receive an utterly unwarranted Overrated mod from me. Why not? There's no consequences for me!

Oh, sure this is probably not true. I'll perhaps post some trolls once in a while. Fuck posting for real though.

And I'm also going totally random on metamoderating.

I beat Beowulf on Google

Alright this is pathetic, but I noticed my username beats out the "real" Wylfings (which are from the story of Beowulf) on Google pagerank.

(P.S. If this comment survives, it will be a fascinating look into our times, eh? Pagerank.)

Overrater packs

I now believe that there is a class of people on Slashdot who do the following:
  1. Get mod points.
  2. Look for posts by people on their foes list.
  3. Mod them Overrated, no matter what the content of the post is.

Some newcomers at this practice will mod people Troll for no reason, but they learn quickly that Troll can be metamoderated and switch to Overrated.

There is no earthly reason to have a moderation is that not subject to metamoderation!
