Comment: MSO Advantages - Biased Perspective (Score 1) 1

Hi In response to your questions about scope interfaces for MSOs: My response is not unbiased in that I work for a scope manufacturer. I think you ask a great question that none of the manufacturers address specifically. But I think there are some key advantages we have for MSOs that combine for really great leverage for users. They are: Advantage 1) We make an external to scope MSO option. Own 5 scopes? Any one of them could use the MSO option by simply plugging it into the USB and L Bus ports. Thus lowest cost to use/own/scope. Advantage 2) We can, because of advantage1, un-plug and un-tether the MSO from the scope. Cool if you want to use the scope somewhere else for a while and not have to de-probe the MSO. Advantage 3) We have the highest channel count - up to 36 digital inputs Advantage 4) We have the highest BW - 500 MHz Advantage 5) We have the deepest memory - 50 Mpts per line Advantage 6) We have 2 GS/pt sampling and automatic time correlating of analog and digital channels on scope screen Advantage 7) We allow serial data inputs to be triggered and decoded on the screen on the scope (ASCII, HEX, Binary) for I2C, SPI, etc. without using the analog scope inputs Advantage 8) We allow cross triggering between analog and digital triggers - where both have to be valid for the scope to trigger. Advantage 9) University discount Advantage 10) Intuitive UI that is the same UI on all Windows based scopes - 200 MHz to 100 GHz models http://www.lecroy.com/ Good luck in your search and evaluations.
