TechnoLust's Journal: I can metamod & /. new user statistics & vacation

I just checked and I have MetaMod privledges now! Yipee! I went through and it was sad. 5 of the 10 moderations I had were unfair and 1 I didn't change because it could have been a troll, but it could have been an attempt at humor, so I didn't metamod it. That's sad. HALF OF THE MODERATION I SAW WAS UNFAIR. Says a lot for the /. community, or at least the part the editors let moderate. Out of the 5 I m2'd unfair, 3 of those were modding down TRUE statements of fact, because it was about Windows. Damned zealots.

Anyway, on to the usage statistics. The reason I have these, is because I wanted to know when I would get metamod privs. In order to have metamod privs, you have to have positive Karma (mine is 50) and be in the eldest 90% of users to join. As my UID is 528463, there had to be 587182 users to put me in the eldest 90%. So I used the journal.pl module to tell me how many users were registered. I typed, http://slashdot.org/journal.pl?op=display&uid=XXXXXX where XXXXXX was a random UID. If it came back with "SOMEBODY's journal", that UID existed. If it came back with "'s journal", that UID doesn't exist. So I would narrow it down until I found the exact number of users on the system that day. I usually did this right after lunch, so these are around 1pm each day. Here's the data I collected:

If you mark over 3 unfair, your m2 is flagged as possible abuse to be checked by an editor. Also, (it used to, dunno about now) if you check more than 5 'unfair' you loose a karma point.

is that really true? no wonder taco and co. say moderation is 92% fair, they simply remove dissenters who don't agree.

today you may have half unfair, tomorrow you may have all 10 be fair, the following day all 10 be unfair.

10 mods is by far a too small sample size to determine the percentage of unfair mods. It would probably be better to have a sample of 500 moderations in order to get a general idea of the percentage of unfair mods.
