Journal TechnoLust's Journal: Star Wars trailer & Sprite's messed up values. 4
I just saw the trailer for Episode II. Looks like it will rock. I'm taking that day off so I can camp out the night before and catch the midnight showing again. I did that for Episode I and really enjoyed it.
While I was watching FOX waiting for the trailer, (and catching the Simpsons and Futurama) I saw a new sprite commercial. Basically it showed a basketball player (I detest professional sports, but I think it was Kobe Bryant, if it was or wasn't let me know, but don't flame me, I'm telling you now I don't know who it was for sure.) saying how everyone told him to work hard in school and he didn't listen and now he was a success. So the basic message here is piss on learning and learn to dunk. That's fucked up. I can't believe Sprite is telling people not to listen to their teachers. Ok, I'm done...

Contrary to popular belief, I don't think the "I'm in charge of security" line was that bad, just (hopefully) taken out of context.
I'll be there in the first week. Probably a mid-week show before school lets out. Same as last time:)
As for the Sprite commercial, if this is the case, that's the end of Sprite for me. I'd gladly switch to 7-Up. (Although I liked the first pitch man more than his replacement. What was the ad agency thinking? "They all look alike, so nobody will notice" seems to be the deciding factor in the casting decision.)

Sprite commercials piss me off anyways. They always say, "It's not about being cool, or being in the in crowd, or drinking what an athlete drinks, just obey your thirst." But then WHO is telling you this? A professional athlete hanging out with cool people! It's blatant hypocrasy.
I agree... movie will rock... (Score:1)
Dunno when I'll get to see it, though. I camped out for the first one, and it was a blast, but this time I'll be busy that week/weekend.
I also agree on the Sprite commercial. WTF? Football players (for example) get paid millions a year. They (not all) buy drugs, they beat their wives, girlfriends, mistresses. These are your role models, kids. Be like them!
On the other hand, Bill Gates could afford his own sports team or two, and pay all the players. Guess intelligence does play a role (then again, didn't gates drop out of college to start MS?).
Oh well, guess you can't win that battle...
Episode II trailer shows similarities to Empire (Score:2)
As for the Sprite commercial, I didn't see it, but I detest the message that encourages anyone to go ignore their studies with the goal of becoming a professional athlete. If you don't make it you aren't even going to be able to afford Sprite. In college I lived with a number of people who have gone on to play for the NFL, NBA, WNBA, and MLB. Most of them understood how hard it was to have a professional sports career of any length. Nearly all of them worked hard on their degrees and have a fall back career when they need it. Kate Starbird, who was in many of my CS classes, makes more money from her own graphics company than she does playing in the WNBA. Mark Madsen has a econ degree that will do him well after his NBA career. He will be able to actually put the money he makes now to good use. I almost pity the professional athlete who ignores his/her education only to not make it in the league. They've just blown their chance at a free education. Don't even get me started on these kid who go straight from HS to the NBA...
