Journal Stargoat's Journal: Hu Jintao: Reformer or Conservative? 2
This weekend, after the death of Madame Chiang Kai-shek and a rally in Taiwan of 200,000 people for increased speed to independent state-hood, Beijing delivered a statement. This statement, a bellicose one, warned of dire consequences should the people of Taiwan become independent in name as well as in fact.
Hu Jintao is the dictatorial leader of China. During the SARS crisis, Jiang Zemin lost ground. He will soon be removed. Hu Jintao is responsible for the words and actions of China. It is he who is forcing North Korea to come back to the negotiating table. It is he who threatened Taiwan, both himself in Sydney this weekend, and through the Taiwan Affairs Office yesterday.
It is ironic that Hu Jintao refers to the Taiwanese independence movement as the biggest threat to peace in South Asia. The Taiwanese indepedence movement does not have an army of 2 million. The Taiwanese indepedence movement does not have more than 600 nuclear weapons pointed at Taiwan. The Taiwanese indepedence movement is not egging North Korea on to distract the United States, in a hope to trade North Korean nuclear weapons for the island of Taiwan and its 23 million peace loving citizens.
No, it is the Communist country of China that is warlike. They have gone to war with 3 of their neighbors in the past 50 years, and are funding guerilla campaigns in other countries. The country of China is militaristic. They use war to achieve domination over others for the express purpose of expanding personal rule and power.
The PRC does not care for human rights. They slaughter their own citizens. The PRC does not care for democracy. They enslave their own people. The PRC does not care for the right of self-determination. They threaten to use nuclear weapons on nuclearless Taiwan.
The question: Is Hu Jintao a reformer or conservative? What sort of man is the leader of China.
Hu acted bravely during the SARS crisis in China, when most of the cowardly leaders of the PRC fled from Bejing. He has acted to remove some of the pomp and waste from official Chinese Communist functions. But what sort of man in Hu Jintao?
The question was answered this weekend. He did not act independently. He towed the party line. He acts the same as all the other leaders of Imperial China, the PRC and Chiang Kai-shek. Hu's act may be cleaner, but he's still dirty. Hu Jintao desires power and cares nothing for his people.
The people of China have not found a radical leader in Hu Jintao. They merely have another dictator.
