Except for *one* little problem with your analysis ...

TRON was *not* about CGI ... we're talking traditional cell animation for almost everything. To quote the IMDB:

All the live action that occurred inside the computer was filmed in black and white, and colorized later with photographic and rotoscopic techniques.

Sure, computers were used, but not extensively.
