Schools Say iPods Becoming Tool for Cheaters

Submitted by
Billosaur
Billosaur writes "In addition to allowing easy access to audio and video files, add to the list of iPod functionality the ability to cheat on tests. According to CNN, the iPod is the most recent in a long list of tools used by cheaters. Mountain View High School in Meridian, Idaho "recently enacted a ban on digital media players after school officials realized some students were downloading formulas and other material onto the players." Whether loading on audio files containing valuable information or hiding notes in the lyrics files, the newest generation of cheaters has already adapted technology to their needs, forcing school administrators to play catch-up."

Submitted by
Game Almighty
Game Almighty writes "Hey Slashdot, Game Almighty is following Jack Thompson's continuous attempts to connect the Virginia Tech Shooting with "hyper-violent" games, like Counter-Strike and Doom. This time we've secured a letter that Mr. Thompson has sent to VA Tech PD. Sample paragraph: "Earlier this week, Thompson sent an open letter to Bill Gates condemning Microsoft for publishing Counter-Strike and alleging that the company could be "potentially legally liable the harm done at Virginia Tech." Now, it appears that Thompson is pushing the Counter-Strike issue even further with a letter sent today to Virginia Tech Police Chief Wendell Flinchum..." http://www.gamealmighty.com/story-individual/story /Jack_Thompson_Sends_Latest_Appeal_to_VA_Tech_PD Thanks for any links! With Chip Factories, China's Gain is India's Loss

Submitted by
narramissic
narramissic writes "According to a recent Gartner report, India's 'poor infrastructure' will likely prevent it from winning any chip factory projects from major companies this year. 'Intel's decision to move to China was driven mainly by China's superior infrastructure facilities, compared with those in India, and Intel's need to be closer to its customers in China and Japan, even though China's supply of semiconductor talent is considered to be weaker than India's,' said Gartner analyst Ramamoorthy in the report. From the article:

With the world's second largest population, India is battling to gain a foothold in manufacturing, which China dominates. In the semiconductor business, factory investments represent multi-billion dollar projects and thousands of technical jobs. Although there is no shortage of labor talent in the nation, chip production has not caught on as investors remain focused on the Pacific Rim.

'Google Me: The Movie' in Production

Submitted by
Ryan Higman
Ryan Higman writes "You do it... your neighbor does it... your mom would probably do it, if she knew how.

Most of us have "googled" our own name at some point in time, to see what search engine results come up about you or anyone else out there that shares your name. Now, one enterprising guy by the name of Jim Killeen decided to take it one step further and actually visit all of the other "Jim Killeens" that popped up in his Google search, and produce a fascinating documentary about his journey entitled, "Google Me: The Movie."

The other Jims are a diverse bunch that include a Catholic priest in Ireland, a retired NYC detective, and even a diabetic in Arizona, who died after fasting as part of a cult ritual. However, Jim Killeen, who received the blessings of Google, Inc. on his venture, seems to be going beyond just the interesting stories and lives of his doppelgangers, and instead explores how technology can be used to bridge the gaps between human beings, and learn more about ourselves in the process.

'Google Me: The Movie' is expected to be released Summer 2007. You can learn more about the film and watch the trailer at: http://www.googlemethemovie.com/"
