1. 1% of US troops in Iraq were at my base recently to run around in circles[Oct 31, Pg 1, above fold]. Too bad we have so few troops in Iraq.... Oh, and we definitely do NOT have our own coven... (page 11)

2. The Corps rocks. USMC personnel, and those squids attached to them, have consistently been the most professional, helpful, and pleasant people to work for with or around. It's nice to work with people who think the mission comes first.

3. [troll mode="on"]It is a settled matter that the "theory" of evolution is accepted and proven fact. Those who deny that evolution happened exactly the way we said it did are religious wingnuts. All reasonable people agree that evolution is a well-established and well-understood scientific fact. [troll mode="off"]

  • Curse you, and your non-free-subscription-requiring intruiging link!
  • First, it requires a subsciption.

Secondly, even if evolution is proven completely false, that's not indicitive in any way of either intelligent design or creationalism.

    *Sigh*
    • I haven't read it, but I know of the controversy surrounding the discovery of the humanoid remains and how it applies to the discussion that some have regarding evolution.

First of all, this has nothing to do with Darwin. Darwin has been demonstrated to have been wrong about details of his theory by other evolutionary scientists. While we (as in scientists) all agree that he had the right idea, molecular biology has been shedding light on the mistakes he made in the details for years. Also, there's an el
    • But I didn't say anything aboute either intelligent design[1] or creationism...
Of course, it's interesting that the only thing that gets a nibble is the stuff in the "troll" tags.

Fixing the link as we I type. [1]For the record, intelligent design doesn't conflict with the theory of evolution. It relies on it. It always amazes me when "evolutionists" get miffed about intelligent design.

    • On the other hand, there's no reason why evolution and intelligent design can't coexist. God tinkers. God tests. God improves. God plays with His creations. Or something.

  • 1: Isn't it better that they're doing this formally and openly and honestly than getting the same effect by, oh, making everyone file paperwork to get their paychecks or something?

2: Congrats. But, isn't the USMC also the smallest of the four main forces--to the point that if the other branches had similarly professional units of equal size, you'd never seen them for the preponderance of substandard politicing bastardry? (When one has not served, one's best response to "my branch is teh best!" is usually
    • #2. Yes, they are by far the smallest. I think that's part of it. Also, they instill a sense of professionalism and competence from even before you get in ("the few, the proud", "looking for a few good men", "do you have what it takes?"). I think being so small makes it much easier to to instill that attitude of pride and professionalism. Being small also allows incompence to show up much more clearly. Less room bastardry.

I think that the fact that their doctrinal mission is to go ashore, take and hold terr

      • Out of curiousity, for us non military people. How does the USMC compare to army infantry ? I guess the core of my question is, how much of the Marines slogans are just slogans and how much of their values run through the corps from your experience.

        • They (including the chicks) strongly believe that they are infantrymen first. They very strongly believe that they are "the few, the proud". They take great pride in being Marines. They (mostly, we are talking about humans, after all) believe thier slogans.
  • Small bones from small people. [answersingenesis.org] Interesting, but nothing for the Evolutionist faithful to get excited about.
