+ - GlusterFS, GPL3 Clustered File System, Release 2.0->

Submitted by
Shehjar Tikoo
Shehjar Tikoo writes "GlusterFS is a clustered file system that runs on commodity off-the-shelf hardware, delivering multiple times the scalability and performance of conventional storage. The architecture is modular, stackable and kernel-independent, which makes it easy to customize, install, manage and support different operating systems. Multiple storage systems can be clustered together, supporting petabytes of capacity in a single global namespace. Building a configuration of a few hundred terabytes can be accomplished in less than thirty minutes.

GlusterFS 2.0 Release:
GlusterFS v2.0 has gone through a major revamp in design and development since v1.3. Thanks to thousands of initial users who provided us great feedback and bug reports. There are a number of production deployments now. GlusterFS uses existing disk file systems (such as Ext3, XFS, ZFS..) to store your data as regular files and folders. You can restore the data, even after you uninstall GlusterFS. So, give it a try and let us know.

License: GNU GPLv3

The Courts

+ - Hans Reiser Trial Update->

Submitted by
eldavojohn writes "The Hans Reiser trial ended its second day today and the developments have been interesting. The prosecutor is alleging that Reiser convinced his son to help cover up Hans murdering Tina. Some of the most suspicious evidence against Hans arose at the very end of the day: "Hora ended the day's session by telling jurors that the defendant's small Honda Civic went missing for two weeks, until authorities discovered it after a lengthy manhunt two weeks after Nina Reiser vanished. "When they looked inside the car, it's missing the front passenger seat," Hora said. "It's gone. It's not there." In an impromptu news conference outside court, defense attorney DuBois said Reiser had removed the seat because his client was in financial straits and was living in the 1988 vehicle." Hopefully the real murderer of Nina can be found and convicted."

+ - Facebook's Ad system is out->

Submitted by
sssk writes "Facebook today unveiled it's plan for world domination. From the press release: "For the last hundred years media has been pushed out to people, but now marketers are going to be a part of the conversation. And they're going to do this by using the social graph in the same way our users do." Microsoft seems to agree. Will advertising schemes like these drive social networking into oblivion ? That remains to be seen."

It is masked but always present. I don't know who built to it. It came before the first kernel.
