Pray_4_Mojo writes "I just wanted to write in to /. and let all the other mac user's know, MacHeist is a go! MacHeist is a charity bundling of 10 popular macintosh shareware applications, worth $288, being sold for $49 — an 80% discount. Plus, 25% of the money made is donated to charity (you get to pick from one of eight, or donate to all eight). 8 of the 10 apps are available, but the last two are only 'unlocked' if enough money is raised for charity. If $50K is raised, NewsFire gets unlocked, and if $100K or more is raised, everyone is rewarded with a license for TextMate. You can find more information over at the MacHeist site. They've already raised $30K for charity, so the unlocking of NewsFire can't be too far away!"

+ - More on the Mac Book Security Saga

Pray_4_Mojo writes "John Gruber of Daring Fireball fame has a great write up of the Black Hat Wireless Mac Book Exploit. He analyzes the controversy, and concludes that either Apple or the security researchers are lying. From the article "Assuming I'm right that Maynor and Ellch have found no exploit against the any stock AirPort cards and drivers, the worst part about this fiasco might be the "boy who cried wolf" effect: A false alarm makes it more likely that if someone finds an actual serious security flaw against Mac OS X, that Mac users will ignore it, thinking that it's another over-hyped non-issue like this one appears to be.""
