I FULLY expect OPIE and Anthony to return to radio on 6/1/2004 as soon as the third year of their previous contract is expired..
(For another interesting conspiracy theory: O&A were kicked off the air, in NY, and 18 cities nationwide because they had a contest where listeners could win a trip to boston by doing certain "naughty" things in very public spots.
One couple (only 1 of 3 that day!) was caught in ST. Patricks's Cathedral in NYC, and the producer (point counter) decided to mouth off to the cops that came, (instead of just ducking out silently)....
background... this was actually the THIRD "sex for sam" contest they ran, and was about the 20th time they had couples doing anal in ST Pat's, but was only the first time they were caught.
Talk about severe punishment. The ONLY REASON that they were canned was because the CATHOLIC league of NYC publicized this incident in the their newsletter, and started a letter writing campaign...
Rather then cancel their contract or FIRE them (making them available for a competitor in 6 months) INFINITY radio decided to pay them for balance of their 3 year contract (UP in 11 days!) (5mil/year each). This allowed Infinity to SILENCE them for 3 years!!!
WELL my guess is that on 6/1

• a) O&A will have a new UNCENSORED radio show (no tape delay) on SATELLITE radio (SIRIUS or XM) (you will pay 10/month plus an extra $2-3 monthly for their subscription too...
• b) INFINITY will again offer O&A a nationwide show, (tape delayed by a minute or two like before...
• c) the REALLY good stuff will be on during the syndicated commercials, which will NEVER be done by the boys live again!.. YOU KNOW that they HATED doing commercials at all!
• d) The satellite radio show subscription will also come with a free full time subscription to the studio web-cam. (I HOPE...
• e) and finally... in order to protect themselves from liability

Infinity will do the following:

• a) purchase the call letters of the existing WONA-AM and WONA-FM
  (Several months ago www.wona.com worked FINE, today YOU get a search engine...!) I call that a good theory!
• b) swap call letters and give 102.7 in NYC the new moniker "wona-fm"
• c) give wnew-fm a permanent retirement in NYC, or let the former wona-fm use it.
• d) Infinity will then lease the ENTIRE studio, and infrastructure of 102.7 in ny to OPIE and ANTHONY, in lieu of payment for their services, and in conjunction with a XX% share of all commercials and simulcasting done.
• e) infinity will agree to pay for any FCC fines, despite not being liable for content...
