Should Ubuntu Fans Root for the Boston Celtics?->

Submitted by
LotTS
LotTS writes "The Boston Celtics pro basketball team has adopted the African term "Ubuntu" as their rallying cry because it roughly translates to, "I am because we are." Although unrelated to the Linux distro (allegedly), should the Ubuntu community try to ride the coattails of the Celtics for free publicity, especially since they are a favorite to win the NBA championship this year?"

Email is for Old People->

Submitted by
LotTS
LotTS writes "A relatively young analyst at Forrester Research discovered that email is only for old people. He writes:

I often ask my younger cousins, sisters, and their friends about their internet usage, they consider me "old". I ask them about which websites they use, how they learn about new products, and what influences them. In my casual ethnographic research, my kid sister in college recently told me two things that still resonate in my head. My college age kid sister told me that, "Out of my hundreds of friends, only ONE does not use facebook or myspace." She also shared her email usage, "I only use email to get a hold of old people like you.""

I do not believe all information on the internet is supposed to be free (in terms of price). Wayyy back in the 90's before the internet was mainstream I had a paid subscription to NY Times, even though they were 2-3 times more expensive than my local paper, because I felt the quality was so much greater and was willing to pay for that quality. The newspaper still had ads from revenue back then, but I still had to pay for it and was willing to do so.

Fast forward to today and I still believe that - the news quality of a NY Times piece is still premium quality, but the difference now is that the news is 100% paid for by advertisers. My conscience is making me turn off my browser's adblocker plugin when I go to NY Times's website now.
