Red Hat open sources RHN Satellite: Spacewalk

Submitted by
Logic
Logic writes "After seven years of development and hosting for their own customers, Red Hat has finally released their proprietary Red Hat Network customer-installed software, named RHN Satellite, as an open source systems management package named Spacewalk. The announcement was made on the RHN Satellite Users mailing list (subscription required), and development efforts are being centered at fedorahosted.org. With the plethora of other open source configuration management systems such as CFEngine, Puppet, and Bcfg2, coupled with monitoring/trending tools like Nagios and Munin and central yum or apt repositories, is Red Hat too late to the party?"
