+ - Hands-on Spore 1

Submitted by Dr. Eggman
Dr. Eggman (932300) writes "1up.com has the exciting news, Spore is content finalized and moving into to tweak and polish phase! What's more, they were able to give a hands-on preview; the first of its kind outside of EA. Sam Kennedy was allowed to evolve his cellular creature up into the top of the ocean before finally flopping onto land. From there, he continued to evolve his creature to the point of simple communication, before his time was up."

+ - Web users too trusting of search engine results

Submitted by Stony Stevenson
Stony Stevenson (954022) writes "An eye-tracking experiment published in the Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication revealed that, when college student web users selected a link from Google's result pages, their decisions were strongly biased towards higher ranking links. However, this bias was found to persist even if the more highly-placed content was less relevant to the search query than entries at the bottom of the list.

This has important long-term implications for search engine results, according to the researchers, as this type of use affects future rankings. "The way that college students conduct online searches promotes a 'rich-get-richer' phenomenon where popular sites get more hits regardless of relevance," they explained."

At the source of every error which is blamed on the computer you will find at least two human errors, including the error of blaming it on the computer.
