Windows 7 Search Replacement

Submitted by JeremyDuffy
JeremyDuffy writes "So windows 7 search is pathetic and pointless (unless you know something I don't) and I'm getting a little tired of entering a search term and it not bothering to even search most times. Other times it does search, but doesn't find files I know are there. When I browse for them, there they are. What was MS thinking with this?

Anyway, I clearly have to give up on Windows search as it doesn't even function. What do people here use?"

Help finding a good photo manager?

Submitted by JeremyDuffy
JeremyDuffy writes "Ask Slashdot: I have an photo project of over 7000 photos. I want to tag them based on location, time of day, who's in them, etc. Doing this by hand one at a time through the Windows 7 interface in explorer is practically madness. There has to be a better way. Is there a photo manager that can easily group and manage file tags? And most importantly, something that stores the tag and other data (description etc) in the FILE not just a database? I don't care if the thing has a database, but the data MUST be in the file so when I upload the files to the Internet, the tags are in place."

What the heck are these Google errors about?->

Submitted by
JeremyDuffy
JeremyDuffy writes "It's weird but suddenly I've been seeing this annoying Google error randomly whenever I'm browsing around. In some cases, it's even come up when I wasn't using a link from Google! If I try reloading the page or, worst case, opening the page in Internet Explorer, it works fine most times. I don't know what it is, but I wish it would stop. It's clearly some kind of weird Google flaw and I hope they fix it soon. If anyone knows what this is and how to get rid of it, please let me know."

Adobe Photoshop vs Ulead PhotoImpact vs GIMP?

Submitted by
JeremyDuffy
JeremyDuffy writes "I do web design, graphic design, and now a comic strip and have used Ulead PhotoImpact 7 for years. I know Photoshop is the "king of all design", but are the newer versions of PhotoImpact any competition? Do I need Photoshop for what I do? And is GIMP in the race at all?

Mostly, I want the ability to use a graph tablet well, vectorized art for clean lines and resizing, and I like PhotoImpact's ability to create materials easily with different textures, reflections, backgrounds etc.

Oh, and I definitely don't want some CE, SE, or other watered down version that's made for photo editing only.

Man Wins Partial Victory In Circuit City Arrest->

Submitted by
JeremyDuffy
JeremyDuffy writes "Michael Righi, the man who was arrested at Circuit City for failing to show his reciept/driver's license, has fought a moral battle against the city for almost a month now. The case has already been settled and he emerged victorious... sort of. It turns out that he's already spent almost $7500 and would have kept fighting them too, but because his family would have been dragged into it, he was forced to take a deal. They've expunged his record and dropped all charges, but he had to give up his right to sue the city to do it."
