I won't buy either console, pc gamer at heart and have been since around 90 when there wasn't much to write home about in terms of games. Everything about the route consoles have started taking the last 2 generations is just silly. I have home entertainment equipment that does a better job than a jack of all trades "gaming" console could do, definitely don't need to duplicate what I already have to fire up some poorly configured gamepad controlled version of a pc game and as for exclusives..they can keep em.

Until we reach a saturation level and high speed internet for everyone, requiring a machine to be connected to the internet makes no sense even if it is just to check in with it's mommy.

When compared to the crapfest of MMO's that have been thrown in our faces over the last 15+ years now some of the MUD's, with only their text based representations, are more detailed and well thought out than their multi-million dollar flashy 3d grandchildren. In the world of MMO's (not all, but most), a picture definitely isn't worth a thousand words. More detail can be presented to the player in a well written sentence than 5k polygon. Imagination is great like that.

Most will use electricity, even cell phones and the internet and all this other newfangled technology, for work but it ends there at the farmers market (or wherever else they conduct business) and doesn't follow them into their home lives for the vast majority of them.

Firstly, it's very important. You will be kicking yourself in the ass for the next 10 years when you have to keep going back to figure out all this "crap you will never need" that you just so happen to need every month.

Your problem seems to stem from a lack of understanding the basics according to your summary. Go back and really study them until you understand tehm; it will make life so much easier and it won't take long. Everyone these days are "good with computers" and if that is your selling point you can get hired for helpdesk support at minimum wage right now. If you want to be involved in any of the advanced CompSci areas though those fundamentals (advanced math is one of many) are absolutely necessary. The first time you can't figure out a simple algorithm because you don't understand the math behind it just stand up, shake the interviewers hand and go home, you already don't have the job.

You seem to be confusing Professional (basically just a fancy word stating I get paid for what I do) and Expertise (expert skill or knowledge in a particular field). Neither require the other to be true.

I mean it's still WoW but after a decade, the first half of it playing regularly and slowly playing less and less, a new coat of paint isn't enough to make it fun and exciting anymore. Time for something new but there isn't anything. Sure there are a lot of different names on boxes out there but they are all basically the same. The MMO world needs something truly innovative, there just isn't anything. For me, starting way back at UO, MMO's have run their course. Nothing in any of them keeps me interested more than a month.

I remember when these comments use to be insightful....7 years ago. Now it's just the same old comment rehashed over and over again by AC. The only difference among posts are the sites referenced as being the source of all /. news.
