A First Look At The 45nm Intel Penryn->

Submitted by
Techwarelabs
Techwarelabs writes "TechwareLabs has a first look at the new Intel 45nm Penryn Processor complete with screenshots and a preliminary benchmark. The mobile Penryn chip is faster than a pair of dual Xeon 5150 server cpu's due to several enhancements including Intels new high-k transistor material based on Hafnium. Intel has kept to its release of a new processor every 2 years and feels that the new high-k transistor material will assist it in keeping up with Moore's Law."

AMD Delivers First Stream Processor @ 500 GFLOPS

Submitted by
Godsmack74
Godsmack74 writes "AMD FireStream 9170 The AMD FireStream 9170 will be the world's first Stream GPU with double-precision floating point technology tailored for scientific and engineering calculations. Competitively priced at an MSRP of $1999 USD, it features up to 500 GFLOPS of compute power, rivalling many of today's supercomputers, and providing dramatic acceleration for critical algorithms. This second generation Stream Processor is built with 55 nm process technology and consumes less than 150 watts of power — delivering an exceptional performance per watt. In addition, the reduced heat dissipation allows it to function in dense design configurations. The FireStream 9170 is a single card solution with 2GB of onboard GDDR3 memory to compute large datasets without CPU traffic. The asynchronous direct memory access (DMA) ensures data can flow freely without interrupting the stream processor or CPU. At $1999 USD it may be one of the most expensive graphics processors on the planet. Although it's not really competitively priced against anything on the "normal" graphics market, for the high end market it fits right in. Of course where else can you pay $1999 and get 500GFLOPS of compute power? With the power of graphics cards rivaling and surpassing that of average processors the migration of the entire industry to graphics architectures and line of thought is not far away. Are we once again seeing AMD's forethought and planning in action? Acquiring ATI may prove to be a genius move in the long run. Pictures and more information can be found at TechwareLabs"

Godsmack74
Godsmack74 writes "We at Techwarelabs firmly believe that there is an evil ever present inside your technology but were never able to prove it . . . until now. We had the opportunity to sit down with the Devil himself who wanted to absolve himself of technologies gone wrong blamed on him. Our interview is shocking so prepare yourselves. In our Interview with the Devil you will find out what he believes he is responsible for and what he's not."

AMD Confirms Triple Core Phenom is Quad Core->

Submitted by
Godsmack74
Godsmack74 writes "We have confirmation from AMD that the triple core Phenom is based on the same Die as the Quad core and internally they are the same. This makes a lot of sense for the chipmaker as they will be wasting less usable chips and will be able to offer an additional product to the market. This kind of tactic is not new to AMD and has served them well in the past. As you saw from our previous news announcement we suspected the triple core to be a quad with the fourth disabled some time ago. Check out this video about the new processor and gaming here. AMD Announces Worlds First Triple Core Processor->

Submitted by
Godsmack74
Godsmack74 writes "AMD Phenom triple-core processors are expected to deliver increased performance for multitasking usage models and multi-threaded applications, aligned with similar benefits available with the upcoming AMD Phenom quad- core processors. This unique processor could be a decisive advantage for AMD to gain ground back in the desktop processor market for those consumers wanting a bit more processing power at a lower price point. AMD Barcelona sets the bar for Server CPU's->

Submitted by
Jason
Jason writes "In just a short few hours AMD will officially launch its newest addition to is server processor lineup named Barcelona. Barcelona marks an important point in the AMD roadmap as it is AMD's first quad core server cpu. TechwareLabs has a first look at this new CPU and its performance for you, will try to help you answer the question "Will Barcelona set the bar for server chips to measure up to?" The new cpu has a clock for clock advantage up to a 30% advantage over every Xeon tested it against. Does this mean its the new performance king or does the Intel Xeon still hold that title? TechwareLabs diggs into the Barcelona to bring you working silicon on a specialized board and the tests and benchmarks to show the actual performance vs the early claims. Read the Review.
