An anonymous reader writes "Lists of the best freeware usually concentrate on Windows and Mac, but what about Linux? This list of the best free programs for the home PC includes the usual Windows and Mac suspects, but also some often overlooked Linux programs including such standouts as Inkscape, the Linux answer to Illustrator. Inkscape is a powerful vector graphics editor, is useful for producing slick, stylised graphics, and in fact there are more than 30,000 Inkscape-produced files in the Wikimedia Commons. Also on the list is Aqualung, which is set apart from other music players for its dedication to high-quality re-sampling, and ytnef, which allows Linux users to fetch the attachment hidden inside "winmail.dat" files sent by Outlook users."
