Journal GMontag's Journal: Joe Biden must be using his own words
That was Senator Joe Biden (D-DE) making a comment about Senator Barack H. Obama (D-IL). Really not sure who Senator Biden comes in contact with in his circles. I can see bits of that statement if he hangs around with Jessee Jackson, Al Sharpton and Representative Rangel, at least I could see articulation from a black person blind-siding him. If he spent a lot of time with Cornel West, but nobody else, I might see the whole thing of Senator Obama being just like every professional black person I know being a surprise to Senator Biden.
In case you don't know, oh gentle reader, Senator Biden has had an integrity-challenged past. In law school he got caught foot noting a small passage from several pages of work that he used in the same paper, i.e., he copied several pages and noted a small bit as someone else's work. He gave some excuse about being fuzzy on the rules of crediting the work of others as the problem. This came out in his first run for the presidential nomination, when he was called on lifting the work of others for his stump speeches. No, not the work of his speech writers, the words of better speakers than he somehow came from his lips.
Well, when he uses his own words (if these are his own words) he does not come across very well either. The paragraphs below are from the linked article above:
Biden has made other questionable comments. In a June 2006 appearance in New Hampshire, the senator commented on the growth of the Indian-American population in Delaware by saying, "You cannot go into a 7-11 or a Dunkin' Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. Oh, I'm not joking."
Two months later, responding to a question in an August interview on Fox News Sunday, Biden was asked how a "Northeast liberal" could compete against more conservative southern candidates.
"Better than everybody else. You don't know my state. My state was a slave state[sic]. My state is a border state. My state is the eighth largest black population in the country. My state is anything from a northeast liberal state," Biden said.
Expressing pride in being from a "slave State"? Stating that convenience stores in Delaware are for Asian Indians only? The man is truly amazing. Oh, I am not joking either.
Perhaps he is pulling one of those New Republic tricks and checking to see if the people around him are racists? I doubt it.
No, Senator Biden is expressing in public exactly what he and his supporters do in private, contempt for the minorities that they use and abuse to gain power. Nothing more, nothing less.
One thing I can agree with from Bill Kristol, I really hope the Honorable Senator Biden stays in the race all the way to November 2008, even if he has to be the VP nominee.
