No matter what one thinks of the IRS and income taxes, playing along with Uncle Fed is a good way of avoiding messy legal problems. If you want to abolish the income tax work within the political system to get rid of it. I believe there are several current and former members of Congress (including a former majority leader) who are for replacing the income tax with a consumption (sales or VAT) tax. It isn't as if there is taxation without representation.

But these people actually believe (or say) that forced payment of income tax is illegal. It's not. There is no valid legal argument supporting this.
My favorite argument is that Ohio wasn't a state when they ratified the income tax.
