Was almost found out (improper barrel) at the range!
Had a nice day at the shooting range (109/125), but more about that later.
Arrived at the office at 0700 so I could leave at 1530ish.
Had lunch at CCR (NWS) and it was great. Stuffed chicken, mashed potatoes, steamed veggies and a great show. Food and tip $13.00, female interpretive dancer donations, $15.00. Always great to support women in the arts. Nice. Switched vehicles at the house and used the 1972 Charger for the rest of the day.
Jetted from office around 1515 and made great progress up Rt.50 toward the Bull Run Shooting Center. So great that I forgot to buy shotgun shells, so had to make a detour, one hour into the trip, to Dick's Sporting Goods and buy a case of 1 oz, 7.5 shot, 1350 FPS shells.
Back on the road, I finally arrived at the range around 1700. Careful not to go to the clubhouse, I took the Benelli Nova Pump (18.5" barrel, no choke, ghost ring sights) to the Wobble range with my pre-paid range fee card. BTW, the range has a 23" minimum barrel limit. A few months ago a Trapper told me not to worry about it, just say your gun is 23", so I remembered that lie when I needed it. Side note: I HATE to lie, but this rule is so STUPID that I can actually justify this lie as opposed to almost any other.
Apparently some cops had been on the range acting "Rambo" with their 14" riot guns. Also/or a "mideast looking family" (that is a direct quote) showed up in traditional garb, SWAT style slingss and riot guns. Early teens to adults. Whatever the case, it is a stupid rule.
Some other shooters were there. Not the usual kind, but the kind who know guns very well. As soon as I started shooting one of them commented about how loud my gun was. I told him everybody says that. Must be the cylinder choke and the AA Winchester shells.
The Trapper had to put his earplugs in as he never normally has to but my gun is so loud . He asked me barrel length and I responded "23 inches" immediately.
After the first round a bunch of Trappers came up to shoot and had to start nosing around my shotgun, all asking the above questions. I really do not like a lot of attention and attention like his on the range was something I could have skipped.
Shot 5 rounds of Wobble, 23/25, 21/25, 21/25, 21/25, 23/25. Did not get to shoot my hat
Packed up and drove to The Back Yard Grill and Bar for a quick, quiet beer with my bartender buddy Mark.
So much for a quiet evening. The place was packed beyond cartoon level! Parking was difficult. I almost turned the Torqflite 904 tranny inside out to back up and get as spot. The guy leaving the spot pulled up and ssaid "Hey! That . . . that . . . that . . . Dodge . . . is one of those Challenger . .
Folks into young stupid chicks, use the Brian Lamb line: "Hi, I am X, who are you and where are you from?" They will jabber their little empty drunken heads off at you.
Finally noticed the difference between unattractive young women who pack patio bars to the gills and hot young women who do the same is that the unattractive ones will rub anything. The hot ones will rub you if you are between them and the bar. The thing they have in common? See Brian Lamb comment.
Got going after a couple of beers. Hardly got to talk to Mark. Saw some folks I han not seen in years. We all noticed that there were about three people on the patio who had jobs and we were them. Was completely amazed at how 20s girls packed into a bar and acting silly are so much less attractive now than when I was a teen. I like the brainy ones. Need to go to the library or something.
When arriving at the Charger, there was a note on the windshield from some guy who had one and wants to buy the hood (Power Hump Hood). Sorry bud, get a different parts car.
Limped home without a problem. Was great to get back on the range again. Now I need to get that car restored.
