Way to Measure User Friendliness? 1

Submitted by Pav
Pav writes "While wrestling with yet another bunch of config files I started wondering if there were any metrics for measuring user friendliness. It's obvious that there's a cost for learning and using every UI — users pay this in man-hours and businesses in currency. Surely there has been research done on trying to quantifying this. Does Slashdot know of any? I'm sure developers would be much more likely to improve user friendliness if they were aware of ways to measure it."

Custom Built Computers

Submitted by the eric conspiracy
the eric conspiracy writes "For several years I've been buying custom barebones systems from Monarch Computer based on a recommendation I found on slashdot, and have been happy with the result. However in 2006 they really went downhill, and now appear to be out of business. So I am looking for suppliers whom I can go to for a computer where I can specify the motherboard, case, power supply, memory on a piece by piece basis, get feedback from the supplier as to whether these items would be a reliable combination, and have the supplier assemble the custom system and test it. The system may just be a motherboard and CPU, or it might be all the way to a complete package. Any suggestions?"

RegisterFly's domain rights revoked

Submitted by
xiphoris
xiphoris writes "RegisterFly, a popular discount domain registrar and web host, has had its reseller status revoked by eNom, its reseller. eNom sent me an email today notifying me that they are taking control of my domains:

This is a formal notice to owners of domains which have been registered through eNom via its reseller, RegisterFly.com. Over the last year, eNom has become aware of an increasing number of complaints from dissatisfied RegisterFly customers. As an eNom reseller, RegisterFly is contractually bound to adhere to certain standards of customer service in a speedy and diligent manner. Therefore, effective immediately, we have terminated RegisterFly as a reseller of domain names through eNom.
As a customer who has previously had extensive problems with RegisterFly, I am glad eNom is taking steps to make sure the poor saps who registered with RegisterFly keep their domains and receive good service."

An anonymous reader wrote in with a Network World story that opens, "Ethernet is right up there with magnetic resonance imaging, the LP record, air bags, and soft contact lenses. So says the National Inventors Hall of Fame, which included Bob Metcalfe, inventor of the ubiquitous LAN technology, in its latest round of inductees."
