Journal Com2Kid's Journal: To give you an idea of Fort Knox's true popularity 9

FortKnox has 220 fans.

John Carmack has 374 fans.

CmdrTaco has 691 fans.

This means that one single user (who apparently posts a lot, but for whatever reason I rarely seem to see FortKnox's comments within the story comments), has within just the spring and summer of 2002, manager to amass a popularity within /. (which has a definite heavy Geek, Gamer, and Nerd concentration to it), that is nearly 60% as great as that of one of the most popular computer game designer ever, and 32% as great as that of the man whose website is read by I do not even know how many hundreds of thousands of users each and every day.

FortKnox, not bad for a few months work. :-D

  • My first journal entry was last October. Its been almost a year ;-)

But thanks for the reality check. Guess I'm just likeable???
    • Shit, you mean it has been that long since the Oracle thing hit the fan?

      Cruddo
      • Yeah, it's been more than six months.

I left Slashdot for the greener pastures of K5 around the time of the blackout. I've only come back really in the past few weeks.

I'm still working on hacking up my Slashclone from scratch... Hopefully it will be up within the coming weeks.

Feh, I remember when K5 first came around. Bleck, I could have jumped ship then but I have an extreme drive towards loyalty. ^_^
  • Now you've gone and done it.

FK has been rather quiet the past few months. I suppose being a new father has something to do with it. And his stated... disenchantment at slashdot? I'm posting much less in articles, and much more in journals. (Although I did rack up a couple of +4 and +5 posts in the past couple of days).

Did you manually count them, or do you have a script or something to do that?

BTW, totally off topic, but did you mention that you have some amount of OCD? If so, I was wondering how someone with OCD could like jazz music? It just sounds horribly at odds. Perhaps the fact that so many disparate things eventually do come together?

      Heh.

      Set text display size to decently small so each friend's list entry was just shown across a single line. Selecting just friends list, I copied, then went into wordpad, pasted special as unformatted text, saved as a MS-DOS txt file, went to DOS EDIT, opened it up, scroll down to last line;

The line number of the last line is how many friends that user has. :-D

(EDIT being the only program on my computer right now that shows line numbers. . . . I guess StarOffice may do it someplace but darned if I know where)

      I also like Baroque

My mind automatically goes about and tries to tap out the melody/beat to the music.

Now with Baroque, err, well, heh.

Any ways, I use it to go to sleep. :-D Yah yah I fall asleep to baroque music, so sue me, hehe. I was rather surprised when I found out that it actually keeps most people awake. I love it because I can wrap my mind up around in it and it wraps itself around my mind, verrrrry cozy and nice feeling. :-D

Jazz is some what similar, though I have a higher tendency to start being hyper and jumping around and being hyper-productive during Jazz.

I am the type of person that takes on the characteristics of whatever music he is listening to, thus making Poetry writing in classrooms with background music a rather fun if not somewhat hectic experience. Someone who is good enough at such things might even be able to guess at the CD's play by noting the sometimes sudden changes of mood and style in some of my writings.

Oh, and in addition Yoko Kanno just kicks ass. :-D

Lately I have been falling asleep to Russian Opera, but I have the same 5 songs on my playlist for about the last week or so, which is per usual, since I normally get involved in a song or set of songs for anywheres from a few weeks to a few months until I eventually understand every single nuance of the pieces. I have been listening to these songs all day every day wake and sleep (minus trips outside my little abode for food, bathing, and such of course) for quite some time now, but darnit, Evgenia [mp3.com] may have an ego about it, but she CAN sing really well. :-D

The song over on Pavel Fomitchov's page in Tolkien Elvish sung by Evgenia rocks also.

      Current play list:

      Sposa Son Desprezzata

      E.Kalman: Countess Marica

      Galadriel

      Dvorak in Love

      Delibes. Duo Flowers

It is weird, some of those songs are like Opera + Techno, verrrry odd, heh.

Hmm, I have a number of friends with OCD who also love Jazz, weird.
      • I'm not the one with OCD. Where ever something lands is where it belongs:)

I know what you mean about music. I'm not a very safe driver when some really hard core rap or metal is on the stereo.
        • I'm not the one with OCD. Where ever something lands is where it belongs:)

Nah, I got that to, that is part of the ADHD actualy, a dislike of change. ^_^ As soon as something sets itself down there, that is where it belongs and I am very very VEEEERRY resistant to its change, even if its remaining there means physical discomfort for me.

OCD is a whole wide range of shit, from fingernails 'just not feeling right' unless they are bit down as far as they can go without bleeding (or just 'bleeding a little bit') to scrubbing out the bathtub before each use (how the hell do the rest of you stand /not/ doing that??? eeeew!!!! )

Some people have OCD about different things, I have selective neat freak OCD, I(try to?) always put things back on store shelves, and when I really get into it I organize the living shit out of boxes, but the rest of the time I just throw crap where ever.

OCD is also shit like me insisting on pushing delete 25 or 50 or how ever many times on my calculator when ever I make one mistake, or if I push my shift key a bit to late when typing out "God" or hold it for a bit to long, I delete and rewrite the entire sentence. Actually I am trying right now not to delete that last sentence because I made numerous typos in it as well, which could also be constrained as offensive (though admittedly only in the mind of somebody with OCD or such).

I was having problems with feeling like there as something I "needed to get out" of things, you know pushing away at the buttons on something or scratching lightly on a table, but I recognized my symptoms and had the doc increase my dose, was getting rather bad and I do not want to end up being f*cked up for the rest of my life, shit like that you gotta catch soon or else it takes you away and seriously bad shit can start happening. (in all fairness the last time I had had my meds updated before then was like 2 years prior along with a good few inchs. :-D And even some young kids get higher doses of meds then I do, occasionally even as just starting doses, I am on the VEEEERRRYYYY low end scale of how much meds I am taking. ^_^ Damn good thing too, Class IIs, body adapts to these buggers, so eventually, and My Lord I fear the day, they will likely very well stop working for me. :'( )
          • Err I would like to note that I DO NOT have the fingernails thing. (rather I tend towards the opposit direction, I like seeing how far I can get them before they break off. :-D Too far and it is inconvienent and I cut them though, well bite / cut whatever. She likes trimmed fingernails so I have been triming them lately, but even so I keep some fingernail length just for the sake that otherwise picking things up or seperating things is evil!!! I like my fingernails, they are functional. :-D )
