A bit of history and commentary to start your day plus usual link'a'ramma:

Count von Gneisenau said: "From time immemorial every effort has been made to make men useful to the State machine...but far less has been done to make them free and noble and independent so that they possess a value in themselves."

Sitting a few hundred years down the road from him(von Gneisenau) I wonder how much progress we have made. I still see this world locked in a death spiral of self flagellation. Bipolar fuckwads still rule and pass the power to their offspring. Self-Identity and Nationalism is still thought of (or at least promoted) as one in the same. But...it only takes one of us to say "Hi, come on in. I'll put on the kettle." and open the door to dialog(rather than bombs). So one does remain hopeful that peace is not a stupid dream from the past.

Update: To say that the USA and their allies in Iraq have now been shown to have zero control on the situation(UN bombing today) would be an understatement. One hopes that pressure for a peaceful solution will now take priority over the Carpet Bagging of Crypto-Corp-Inc & Assoc. The people of the USA and the UK must address this problem at the political level in their home areas and with their own officials. Clear goals to peace must now be set.
