Live shows may be a non-starter, too. Most bands have a flat (or somewhat negotiable) fee for the show and a promoter or venue hires them for the gig and sells tickets, for which they set the price, pay the advertising, accept the risk and keep bulk of the profits, if any. Where most touring bands make their money is off merchandising. There's a reason those cheap black concert shirts are $25-30. My (very limited) experience in promotions and negotiation with bands indicates that NOT having a house cut on the merch sales will result in some leeway with the performance fees or even the tech riders in some limited cases.

Setting up a single log-in for multiple web apps?

Submitted by joefreshman
joefreshman writes "My company has grown from 3 founders to over 30 employees in the past few years. Over time, we have added an increasing number of web applications to help us do business better: webmail, bugzilla, request tracker, wiki software, sugarCRM, and a home-grown application that helps us administer the software that we write. However, each system has its own set of usernames and passwords, and it's getting out of hand. What's the best way to use have a single sign-on? I'd like to use the /etc/shadow userids and passwords (because we have to have those for shell, and they work for webmail, too) if possible. I would also like to use cookies so that once a user logged into one system, they could access another one directly and not have to log in again. Any suggestions?"

Does not having signed an NDA give any leverage?

Submitted by Anonymous Coward
An anonymous reader writes "For the past few months, I've worked with a startup developing a new technology that could be of interest to many different sectors when market ready. Despite the fact that the company is well funded, I have yet to be paid, and the issue will likely soon come to a head. Through a combination of circumstance and oversight, I also happen to be the only employee at the company who has not signed a non-disclosure agreement, despite having full access to the technology at hand. Does this give me any discernible leverage in getting the money that is owed to me?"
