Comment First project should be hedge fund software (Score 1) 153

Although I believe that copyright is a good thing when done correctly, I also believe that today copyright is impeding new developments and is impacting negatively the human specie.
What I would like to see is for this project is to first develop a hedge software, so it can fund itself to a very large intent, and then to use all that money to lobby US Government to fix Copyright law.
Only after that, it makes sense to pursue other projects. Otherwise they will be killed by patent trolls.

Comment x86 are RISC since P6 (Score 4, Informative) 225

When the PentiumPro came along (the first P6 processor) it used internal RISC architecture, and all Intel x86 cores from that time to today stilldecode the x86 instructions in what intel calls r-ops (risc operations) and then it processes them.

Nevertheless the part where Intel says "The days of IT organizations being forced to deploy expensive, closed RISC architectures" it is a lie. You can get the UltraSPARC-T2 Verilog code to make those chips yourself and hte code is GPL. You can't do that with any Intel processor. So Intel processors are the really "closed" processor. It is true that RISC processor are more expensive, but it has nothing to do with "closed"

The solution is to have a better unemployed life.
Although I'm not a big fan of giing money. I would only give enough money to buy food, and will also give access to state owned free housing (really small, but well build if possible), free scholarship and free medical aid. The money for unemployment should only cover food, all other things (utilities, school, medic and even housing) should be given by the goverment without that money going through the unemployed person.
That way he will have enough money to live, and a lot of time to get trained and look for a new job.
We need to find a new way to distribute money, and of course we need to charge more taxes. Although I prefer to have only a single tax item (higher sales tax), to avoid the tax season stress.
I prefer sales tax becouse it promotes the reduction of innecesarry spending, which in the short term might dminish spending, but in the long term it will help to take care of the planet.
Income tax is recesive, the best way to avoid income tax is to not earn any money, thus diminishing the economical growth.

One big thing that tablet has is that they charge through USB (I haven't found any x86 netbook that you can charge using an USB port).
The big problem with tablet is the virtual keyboard. I use an iPad. To consume media is great, to type is painfully slow compared to a full size keyboard.

The biggest advantage of the iPad over netbooks is that they charge over USB and the battery last a lot longer.
If I can get a Windows netbook (I have a lot of Windows only apps from the company I work for) that have 30 hours battery and can charge over USB, I would gladly pay 500 USD.

Nevertheless, I'm aiming at your kind of work.
One more thing, "The total separation of work and personal" might be a good choice to some, but to others there is no choice.
Work is whatever you have to do to get from nature the things you need to keep on living.

They will never fire a big number of Sun employees, otherwise the market will turn their back on SPARC and they will loose precious support contracts (and ORACLE loves support contracts).
As parent said, they will put Sun employees on as low as possible salaries waiting for them to quit by themselves. Remember that the current currency war between nations helps companies pay less to employees simply by not raising salaries and letting inflation do her work.
