You can probably lay this one at the feet of crap companies like UBISOFT. An actual Valve game will likely never be cause for a class action suit. What this is, is an attempt to protect themselves from being the scapegoat for OTHER publishers' stupidity. I'm pointing to the recent announcement that UBIPLAY or whatever it's called has been installing rootkits on users computers. It's not Valve's fault that Ubisoft slipped some crap like this into their installer and they are rightly concerned about being sued for it, even though they are just the delivery boy in this case. With this move, greedy class action lawyers will just bypass Valve and go after Ubi, which is the correct thing to do anyway.

This is a good point. These new MMO's seem to be so dead set on being NOT WOW that they end up making mistakes Blizzard made years ago. If nothing else, WoW can show them what NOT to do, ever. No one expects 7 years of content like WoW at release. What's disappointing with most other MMO's is you've got 7 years of WoW to study, 7 years of failed WoW killers to study and they STILL can't get mechanics, interfaces and quality of life items right.

It's not like they are being tasked with inventing the MMO genre from scratch. It's really a pretty well defined game type. Imagine if someone said they were building the latest wonder car and then proceeded to ignore the last 30 years or so of automotive history. Recipe for failure.

i wanted to play. Didn't get in the beta, and when it was released, there was no free trial. Even a couple of days would have been enough. I've got room in my schedule for ONE MMO, and I will not pay full retail on the unlikely chance it's going to replace WoW. Later on I believe they had trials, first where you could get invited by a friend, and now I THINK they have a free trial. Too bad. At this point after reading complaints and all the missed opportunities I think I'll pass.

That's a pretty naive statement. Your complaint should be against intrusive DRM, abuse of legal system, persecution of randomly selected people to make an example. None of which have jack shit to do with Steam which has a DRM so transparent as to be unnoticeable MOST of the time, and is developed by a company that has never been accused of the other things I mentioned. If all DRM were like Steam and all media companies like Valve, most people would have damn little to complain about. It must be sad to walk around thinking that even the guys that try to do things the right way are just as bad as the bastards. You're in for a lifetime of disappointment, stay away from computers and try knitting.

current statement shows $39.99 for 35/35, $30 for landline, 100 for TV and $20 in taxes and fees. Now when i first moved here, i had Dish, no landline and FIOS internet. FIOS internet ONLY was $69/mo for 35/35. Bundle saved me about $25 a month, plus I got landline, more channels and 3 movie channel packages. So, wasn't a bad deal.

You might want to check with FIOS. I was pulling my bill online yesterday and was hit with an ad for FIOS Quantum. Speeds up to 300/65 in some places. The best I can do is 75/35, but it's a hell of an upgrade from 35/35. My bill goes up $20 a month, so I'm paying $59/mo for 75/35 (part of a bundle of course). ANyway, if you haven't logged into your VZ account lately you might want to check. I didn't get any emails or hear a peep about it until I logged in.

In the coming weeks lobbyists from the car wash industry, every organization that does a fund raiser car wash and probably from that guy on the street corner that will wash your entire car with Windex for $2 will be decrying this terrible innovation in auto paint. This stuff will lead to nano apocalypse, lost revenue and general dissatisfaction with life. Someone think of the children too!

why take chances with ancient specimens? Couldn't they have learned the exact same things using more modern and better understood strains? Don't get me wrong. I love science and discovery and all that jazz. I just wonder about the playing with fire mentality of some researchers sometimes. "Hey we're gonna do this cool experiment, let's do it with something really COOL!"

Maybe, but the fact that they're now being treated tax-wise the same as a company that has a physical store in the state probably made it more likely to happen. If you have the name, might as well have the game. I don't think the screaming tax hordes realized this might force Amazon's hand.

i'm guessing you missed his point, he's not talking about the media/tv services of ATT or Comcast, but the internet service. ISP's are fully aware that the service they provide is used by many customers to obtain copyrighted content illegally. They choose to look the other way and make their profit. If they are the gateway between me and the file I want they are effectively a middleman. At least until the feds decide that files that don't come from an approved source is illegal and try to force ISP's to turn the internet into a walled garden ala Apple.

I hope not. Still, it will be interesting to see how many of the people that vote "yes" to a game end up purchasing it when/if it appears on Steam. Lots of games look promising, then fail to deliver. Just because a lot of people said "get it on Steam" doesn't mean I'm going to skip reviews.

I think where this process could really shine is with older back catalog games. I'd bet plenty of publishers would love to release older games and milk them a little longer, but there's a good chance the cost of doing so would be more than the profits, so they don't bother. With this, a publisher could test the waters ahead of time and then make a decision on whether to re-release based on demand.
