I agree, Unity is a mess at now, and Gnome 3 and Shell has many things that I really does not understand they change something that evolve in years to a good standard (like Printer Setup) and create a new one that you cant define the default paper size, and so on (keyboard, nautilus, ...). I found that girls like Unity, because its more beautiful than Mate(Gnome2 fork), Cinnamon and GnomeShell. My conclusion is limited to my limited users test (Some Friends, my Girlfriend and Sisters). At work (University), my Linux users was using Gnome2, and I just update to LinuxMint Mate 13, to get (Ubuntu 12.04 LTS inside), after the upgrade they have the same theme, everything working like was. period. For some new Linux users at work (migrate from WindowsXP), I choose to install Ubuntu 12.04 with Gnome-Panel (Fallback), after some tweaks (install the old printer setup). I had only one friend using GnomeShell, because he use Fedora, but with many extension, to get mostly what we have in Gnome2. In my notebook I am using Gnome3 fallback, but I will migrate to MATE, because the reason which you say "performance".

if something you need to explain you started wrong. Good things are natural, does not need to be explained. Yes, may be you not need to hear users, because they are many different kind of users, but if you build something really new, you need a very good taste. I never see someone complain about iPad interface, I hear about OSX file manager and globalmenu. But Gnome3 is a mess.

Perfect, but some people are so arrogant that they will never change their mind. They could loose a war, lost a entire life trying to show that they are right, but will hear anyone. Its very difficult to deal with this kind of people. If (IF) they come here, they will not read complains, they will write to say that they love Gnome3 and all others (majority) are wrong. May be I am wrong ...

Its ok to say that Linux or even Windows could not run well on a Apple Hardware, but you could found many more hardware that OSX does not run. :)

Yes, Gnome3 is very difficult to use. Default printer setting is horrible, nautilus is difficult. I try Gnome3, Fallback, and Unity, but all has the same gnome3 basic applications. nautilus, user and printer settings. User and Printer, you can solve installing the old default. My users cant find the icon to change the file view, you need to use menu or keyboard shortcuts. Common users don't like shortcuts period.!! Now, I'm using LinuxMint Mate Edition, and I am in peace. Maybe someone port Mate to GTK3, which will be cool. But, for now MATE is ok. LinuxMint MATE works out the box, and I can use the tons of themes. Unity has a great future I think, but theres many thing to solve. Dash flexibility is one. But what I really complain is horrible changes in some gnome3 settings and nautilus. Binary settings (Dconf) is more one bad thing that they copy from windows. WHY???

With Unity or Cinnamon, you are still using Gnome3, just Gnome-Shell is out. I try all, and perhaps Unity and Cinnamon are more usable interface. Gnome3 system has horrible changes. First of all. They make keyboard settings a clone of Windows, and worst they remove the settings for the model of keyboard. Keyboard settings in Gnome2 was evolving in time and become concise and clear. Since for a long time, I did support Windows Users for a long time and keyboard settings was even a problem. They never know where to go, because keyboard settings that they need was not in ControlPanel Keyboard, :-/ ??? But, I guess that someone in GnomeTeam, wakeup after sleeping with his Windows Laptop, and decide to copy the crappy windows behavior. I try to told me vision to they, but they are not really receptive. I simple, does not use Gnome3 and any of many Linux Desktop of my work. I choose for most Linux-Mint-Mate, and some Ubuntu with Gnome-fallback with many may tweaks, like install "system.printer" ... They need to hear people

Why someone will install ANY OS actually in only one partition? Just put put / in one partition and /home in another. Updates and Install will easy.

Not Scary, I live in a country, where tax loss are from 30-40%, almost all small and midle companies are tax offenders. Corruption are everywhere in high level. I am a pro activist to end of cash. I use Credit Card for all I could. With the end of cash and linking transitions with Tax system, will reduce the tax leach to a minimum. Thieves will cant do many things. Even sell stolen things will be more difficult. Drug dealers, corruption, etc... I really think that is a better way to be against many bad things. Of course, gold prices will rise Of course its more easy to travel faster than light than that evolution occurs in Brazil.

I am Brazilian, the currently economy growth, come mostly because goverment start to help poor people, with projects like "Bolsa Familia" which is a help of money (until R$173/month, less than a 100U$ for currently exchange) to help they eat and a project called "Minha Casa Minha Vida" which give money to buy new houses for less incoming people with subsiding interests. There are also a very huge investment in university education. But ..... Even, with high education or skill, does not mean that you can get basic level of life of an american or european with same level of income. Brazil is expensive! The big problem here is moral! And I cant see a cure for this. Employers pay ridiculous salaries even they get millions of profits, they also evade a lot of tax. Mostly justify their crime (of course, employers cant evade tax) saying that the politicians stole, or that they don't give good service from government. But, these very very corrupt politician are elected using money from these un-honest companies and people. Almost small and middle company evade tax. The big group in congress are "Ruralistas" people that represent the interest of big rural owners, that mostly are in the middle age era. Currently they are near to approve a new regulation in which they could throw away every tree that are remaining in the soil. .....
