GPL : you are forced to be free there is no other choice ( what kind of freedom is that?) BSD : you want to be free or not up to you, but keep the copyright notice. Seriously if one really thinks about freedom BSD is more about real freedom than GPL. BSD also seems to promote technological advancement whatever the case. Sure some code might not be released :p but if u know it was done with what piece of software one can fill in the blanks. It is the developper's to decide how he gifts his code to the community.

This is what makes the industry so shitty. This is what make advancement in the technological field so sluggish. The very idea that one doesn't need to hire a programmer who can think properly is evil. Obviously now we see that "she does some programming" and that she apparently didn't learn much. You do not learn programming in college, you learn it in your house for the pleasure of coding. If she hasn't been able to understand that so far, i believe she is a failure. She definitely took the place of someone else who could have fared better in MIT. That is what happens with capitalism. I would not go as far as saying she got in because she is female, but that could contribute to a certain sense, because political wise it sounds a lot more fair when we show statistics of higher number of females being at college and studying IT.

Not everybody gets to be at MIT, and i sincerely do not believe that placing a programmer in a cocoon is gonna make him/her any better. Well :) it wud sound arrogant if i said the systems favors those a Who are good talkers/braggers/liars. It is very rare that someone with high technical skills gets a lion's cut. I travel a lot, and i have seen really awesome software engineers earning $8000 yearly. Sometimes many do not understand that your paygrade may not reflect how good you are worldwide. The industry forces to hide such people so as they can't leave to get a better salary, I know the tricks employed to make developpers feel so bad that they do not deserve better, yet still make them milk cows while paying them a miser :p. It is all a matter of how good you are with making people feel bad.

This makes them in a better position than homo sapiens when it comes to who survived longer or not. Homo sapiens are still kid when it comes to the evolutionary time line. I'd say a Cockroach is way more evolved in all sense than that 200,000 years old species called homo sapiens. We just got lucky that we got a brain that made us use tools in our surroundings to better out lives. Until as a species we don't survive more than the number of years other species have survived, we cannot really set ourselves on some kind of throne and claim we did it, we are superiors.

See the statistics about the worlds population. People have a tendency not to make kids and share their genes that much in the west, rather than the make thousands of kids in the east. (which also is a problem when it comes to resource allocation, but heh, forking to the max ensures the continuity of the species if some has to die in hunger due to that, it is nature's way of dealing with it).

I do travel a lot to sample other countries though, the thing I was pointing out here is that evolution of mankind has come to a change because if you check up history, it was always men who forced themselves up on women, and hence characteristic of intelligence were largely being left out while mostly stronger males or more powerful males got to spread their genes. While nowadays that patriarchal society being nearly dead, we end up in a world where it is the chick who gets to choose, this makes the genetic pool larger rather than what it would have been in case you had kings or tribe leaders forcing a kid on most females around. :p.
