So a while back I tried several different Linux desktops. Probably around 6 or 7. I used each one for about a week or two. They all had their Pros and Cons, but I went back to Ubuntu. I went back(it was the first one I tried...) for the stability, ease of use and software available.

And yes, I know all about the concerns with Amazon and how RMS feels about Ubuntu(which for the most part I agree with).
However I would reccommend it.

BUT!
About a week ago it started automatically going into sleep mode after ten minutes.
As of this writing I haven't figured out how to correct this.
It never did this before and it appears to ignore whatever Power Management settings I give it.
Yes I have Googled this and have tried many things suggested but nothing has worked so far...
If anyone has experienced this and knows the fix I would appreciate advice...

So where do you draw the line?
Is driving the speed limit, lets say 30 mph in a residential neighborhood, too slow and a "capp-able" offense?
Ten mph over the limit?
Fifteen?

This "technique" you describe is something most drivers of standard transmission have used and known about for over a century...

IMHO, it was automatic transmission, and it's "asleep at the wheel" style of driving that is encouraged where nary a thought travels the synapses as one languidly applies pressure to either the brake or gas pedals. People driving automatics are the ones speeding up to lights and stop signs, only to then have to slam on their brakes and repeat the cycle to the next light/stop sign.

Stick drivers are more thoughtful regarding how they drive.

I used to have Direct TV. For years... It was great.

But the monthly bills were too high, and I also had NF. I wondered why I had both and did some hard thinking about it.
I got rid of the satellite and kept NF.

I was totally satisfied with the DVD only plan for a while.
Then streaming came out and I tried that...
It worked great for about the first two years.
Now it is spotty and annoying.
Both NF and my ISP point the finger at the other one.

Right now I'm probably ok with NF not having the latest CRAP you can get from RedBox...
I always have to laugh at people who complain about what NF doesn't have...
I ask what films they want to watch and have to hide my derision.


NF actually has a large amount of incredible foreign and indie films, docs, all kinds of cool shit.
I never have a problem finding something to watch.
The problem is with the streaming itself.

What it doesn't have is the latest garbage peddled by the big studios, that for some reason most people want to watch.

I've been a NF user since they started(2004?) and have had a streaming plan with them since that was possible.
I can say unequivocally that their streaming performance has gone downhill to the point I'm considering cancelling and going back to the 3 DVD at a time plan.
I've called(yes you can do that...) NF several times to complain. I get the same excuses everytime, which boils down to "It's not our fault".
I've contacted my ISP who shows that I've got the latest/greatest DSL modem, etc and that speedtest and streaming others like Youtube all check out fine.

There is a problem with NF streaming.

Should I assume this has something to do with the recent ruling about Net Neutrality?
In my case the problem started about six months ago and has gotten worse in the last two, so it was before that.

So when I watch a DVD I don't have all the bullshit to put up with that I do with streaming. To me NF streaming is akin to the early days of telephone or telegraph.

And yes, I do TOTALLY blame the ISP, but I really have no way to prove it.

My other choice of ISP?
Comcast...(blech/blarg/belch/barf)

1. When did I say I "don't want to reduce the air pollution that causes health issues"?

This right here is something that anyone who lives in a highly polluted urban area knows instinctively. You don't need studies and scientists to point out that pollution(air) is not healthy, and that exposure to it over time(years) is bad and probably contributes to Asthma and Emphysema(would appear obvious) and also things like Lung Cancer and Heart Disease... Common sense would dictate this observation.

This Common Sense observation, that air pollution is bad, is my main, MAIN point of animosity towards all the "there is no human caused global warming due to pollution or putting carbon into the atmosphere" douchebags.

Who gives a flying f*&k if the billions of tons of air pollution each year are causing climate change? Really! Why worry and argue about that when we know beyond any sort of Koch brothers funded propaganda that air pollution, the same air pollution putting billions of tons of carbon into the atmosphere, is also killing the oceans via acidification, browning the forest and(drum roll please...) killing humans.

We should be doing everything in our power to reduce the amount of air pollution we put into the air, if not for what it is doing to the climate, at least for what it is doing to our health.

It always amazes me these idiots who make bold and sweepingly broad statements about California: "It's a desert! It's always been a desert!" Well, people, WTFU, because California actually has quite a few different climatic zones, and declaring the Central Valley a desert is nonsense.

You mean they watched a movie using the computer connected to the GC...

If you have your acquisition pc network vlan'd AND have that vlan blocked from going to the internet via firewall rules and/or proxy and/or GPO, then they can't be streaming movies.

If the pc in question auto logs on, and the logon account isn't administrator(and this isn't XP), and the usb ports are turned off in BIOS, then they couldn't install DIVX viewer or other such software for watching movies.

But yes, people are ingenious in finding ways to get around rules designed to stop them from having fun.
