"Now this has been brought to our attention, the product has been removed from sale with immediate effect. We will be talking to the supplier with regard to how the branding came about." says the company. Submission + - Net addicted couple neglect, starve own kids (yahoo.com)

An anonymous reader writes: Yahoo is reporting in this story that "A couple who authorities say were so obsessed with the Internet and video games that they left their babies starving and suffering other health problems have pleaded guilty to child neglect"

According to a prosecutor on the case: " ... the Reno couple were too distracted by online video games, mainly the fantasy role-playing Dungeons & Dragons series, to give their children proper care ... they had food; they just chose not to give it to their kids because they were too busy playing video games ..."

Police said hospital staff had to shave the head of the girl because her hair was matted with cat urine. The 10-pound girl also had a mouth infection, dry skin and severe dehydration. Her brother had to be treated for starvation and a genital infection. His lack of muscle development caused him difficulty in walking.

Last month, experts at an American Medical Association meeting backed away from a proposal to designate video game addiction as a mental disorder, saying it had to be studied further. Some said the issue is like alcoholism, while others said there was no concrete evidence it's a psychological disease.

Submission + - MS Silverlight to support Linux after all?

Monroe Thomas writes: "From the blog of the UI designer of Windows Home Server:

http://www.antosdesign.com/journal/

"Silverlight, the new cross-browser plug-in from Microsoft delivers rich new media experiences on the Web. In a nutshell Silverlight (formerly known as "WPFe" or Windows Presentation Foundation Everywhere) is shaping up to be a very compelling alternative to Flash. Silverlight is a XAML rendering engine that runs in a browser plug-in and is targeted to work with Linux, Mac and Windows browsers. It does almost everything that WPF does, with the exception of some 3D rendering capabilities. I'm super excited about this new platform and have a feeling this will be all over MIX07.""

surburban writes: "The Mikiphone was the grandfather of portable music players and was billed as an orchestra of music in the palm of your hand. The player was made in Switzerland and marked a trend for portable players. It comes in a silver tin and can play 10in records. But before you can listen to your favourite tracks, you have to assemble together the Mikiphone which was tricky without the manual. Instead of batteries, the Mikiphone is a wind up gadget, and instead of headphones or speakers, a resonator is used to play the sounds."
