Journal Journal: Vacation over...

...and much sadness ensued.

My home is "The Evil Anti-Vegas."

Details can be found here, with more to be revealed over the next few days.

That is all.

Debian

Journal Journal: So, About Dapper . . . 24

For the last year or so, I've been happily using Debian, with a mixture of sources so I was stable, but current, just like nearly everyone who uses Debian.

Then I tried to upgrade or something insane like that, using aptitude, and the whole thing went tits up on me. No amount of cussing, kicking things, or actual tinkering with the software could save my machine.

Let me preface this with an appropriate quote:

Journal Journal: play poker for a good cause on sunday july 17th 6

(Cross-posted to WWdN)

The final table of the 2005 World Series of Poker started at 4pm yesterday afternoon, and wasn't finished until just after 7am today. I'm not sure, but I think that's a record. I'd call Pauly to be sure, but something tells me he's crashed out until at least Sunday.

Journal Journal: The problem with online Poker... 2

I've been playing Poker for about 3 years now, and I'd like to think I'm pretty good. I do very well in live games, and online.

Tonight, for the first time ever, I got quad Aces, and wouldn't you know it, I failed to get paid.

Here's the story...

I'm playing over at ESPN, trying to qualify for their big tournament, the winner of which gets a seat in the main event of the World Series this June.

Journal Journal: October Surprise(s) 6

Let me preface this with two brief points:
  • I am growing exceedingly weary with this election cycle.
  • This has by far been the dirtiest, most negative presidential campaign of my lifetime, and I doubt it will hold the record for more than 4 years.

From your link:

From the Chicago Sun Times: "Inspectors last saw the explosives in January 2003 when they took an inventory and placed fresh seals on the bunkers, Fleming said. Inspectors visited the site again in March 2003, but didn't view the explosives because the seals were not broken, she said."

The story must have changed slightly because, ABC News leaves out the definitive "seals were not broken statement": "The nuclear agency has no concrete evidence to suggest the seals were broken, Fleming said."

From the Boston Globe: "The explosives that were looted from the Al Qaqaa nuclear facility, apparently in April and May of 2003, had been sealed and monitored by international nuclear inspectors before the invasion." That certainly seems to imply that they went missing in April of May of 2003, before or during the invasion.

The Washington Post writes, "US officials suggested that the munitions may have disappeared before the US-led forces established full control over the country."

The Washington Times cites a Pentagon statement as saying the explosives could have been moved before US troops arrived. "Although some believe the Al Qaqaa facility may have been looted, there is no way to verify this." ... "Another explanation is that regime loyalists or others emptied the facility prior to coalition forces arriving in Baghdad in April."

From the Australian Broadcasting Corporation: "And the US State Department spokesman, Adam Ereli, told us the ordnance went missing before US-led forces had a chance to secure the area."

So, are you clear on it yet? Every single source, except the New York Times, at least mentions that a very real possibility is that they went missing BEFORE the invasion.

Journal Journal: Miracles abound... 5

My 3 year old daughter underwent open heart surgery today to correct a number of defects that went undetected until December of last year...

Everything went great, and she was awake, alert, and talking just 40 minutes after they closed up her little chest.

Journal Journal: Finally, time to blow this popsicle stand... 3

The end is near my friends...

Just got the green light from my new employer, and I'll be resigning my current position on Friday. I'd been waiting for the new place to complete my background investigation, and I got the word this morning that it's been completed.

I gaze around at the suck ass company that I've been working at for almost 3 years, and I can now tell them to pound sand.

Journal Journal: Jay Maynard will not go away...

Not long ago Slashdot ran a story about Jay Maynard, and his homemade Tron costume...

As should have been expected, we all laughed, particularly at the photographs.

That was about two weeks ago...

Last week, the Don and Mike radio show called him up and did a half hour interview with him... I laughed again, and was shamed for having known about this guy beforehand.

Monday night, Jimmy Kimmel had him on his late night show, and I was simply dumbfounded.

Journal Journal: Slashdot problems? 2

Over the last few days, I've been having issues getting to Slashdot. Server timeouts, graphics failing to load, etc...

Anyone else noticing these kind of issues?

I can't help but wonder if maybe /. has been the target of a DDoS.

Movies

Journal Journal: Starsky and Hutch 12

I just got back from Starsky and Hutch.

Surprisingly funny. I bet the DVD will be great.

Best part was how anyone in the theatre under 30 didn't get about 70% of the best jokes.

Now I'm hoping that they'll make a CHiPs movie. I wonder what other late 70s to early 80s TV shows would translate well into movies?

Oh, and if you're not watching TRIO every night, you're really missing out on some fantastic television.

Journal Journal: Incorporation: Scam of the Century? 4

How many of you are self-employed, and or have incorporated?

So many scams... So many write-offs.

Why didn't I do this years ago?

Seriously, I'm looking for feedback. I'm about to incorporate, and I see a lot of upside potential. What might I be overlooking, both advantages and disadvantages?
