Submission + - Firefox exploit targets IRC (theregister.co.uk) 1

bl8n8r writes: Theoretical postulations lead to a real time exploit of the popular Firefox web browser as unwitting users click up havoc for IRC channels on Freenode. "It's the first time I've actually seen it used in the wild," states acclaimed Web security expert Robert "RSnake" Hansen. The bug apparently causes trouble when users click malicious links. Freenode has more here, (which is *not* a malicious link. No, really it's not. Click, click.. c'mon, you know you want to): http://blog.freenode.net/2010/01/javascript-spam

It really hit and miss. In my case while there are several hits, most of the movies are very very aged. However they do have a wide range of younger content. I know you can watch enough Hannah Montana to want to hang yourself...

I bought the family a Roku box a while back now and it's got the heaviest use from the younger ones.

Also a side note: I hope MS makes netflix FREE. I can pay monthly to get their gold package (which is only needed for those who play nothing but CoD and Halo for hours on end) in order to use netflix. Why spend the money when I can spend $100 and get a Roku box without having to worry about fees?

Submission + - Firefox Automatically Disables Microsoft Addon (pcworld.com) 1

Sasayaki writes: After it was revealed that the .net update to Firefox pushed through Windows Update left the browser vulnerable, Windows users today discovered that their browser had automatically disabled and blocked that addon (you could 'opt-in' again if you wanted). An interesting move- will Microsoft take it laying down?

They are trying to draw in a younger audience they their traditional readers (who are getting old). Personally, as a 20-something, I wouldn't be attracted to it as much as disturbed by it. That fact that BOTH Playboy and whoever currently owns the rights to the Simpsons thought it was a good idea is proof that they are BOTH in a lot of trouble. I have no motivation at all in seeing a "sexy" Marge Simpson. I think they confused "20-something" and "Anime Perverts." HUGE difference.

You clearly have no idea how Steam's banning system (VAC) works. There is no way to "report" someone. Not only is VAC automatic (it catches specific software that makes adjustments to the game as it's being play), it's also generally out-of-date. The only way you will be banned is if you use old hacks on a secure server. There are also many unsecure servers that can be played on. Also, VAC tends to be slow on updating which hacks it watches for.

Steam doesn't review bans for a simple reason: Hacks Lie. Also, the average person caught cheating is a whinny 12-year-old brat. Very rarely are people banned incorrectly. The only thing I can think of was an old HL1 client-side mod which let people see "bloom." It was later found that VAC would catch this as a hack. Once this was found, the developers of the mod CLEARLY noted that it was caught by VAC and should not be used during online play.
