It appears that a popular GMail back up utility, named G-Archiver, has been harvesting users GMail passwords, this was discovered when a Dustin Brooks took a look at the code using a decompiler. He discovered that user's account information was being sent by e-mail to another GMail account. With that account's password embedded in the source code the developer logged in and found over 1700 e-mails all with user's account information! The creator of G-Archiver has pulled the software stating that it was debug code and was unintentionally left in by a developer.

Over at Coding Horror Jeff Atwood has an interesting write up on the performance of JavaScript in the big four browsers. He has used WebKit's newly announced SunSpider to produce the results. He's also benchmarked the lasted Firefox Beta here. Overall the results seem surprising.

The Sun newspaper has released leaked confidential video footage of the moment that two U.S. aircraft opened fire on a British convoy in Iraq. It resulted in the death of Lance Corporal of Horse Matty Hull. The U.S. was unwilling to release the video for the British inquest into the incident, but since entering the public domain it is now admissible as evidence. While the pilots do seem remorseful it does highlight again problems with the U.S. armed forces' ability in identifying friendly units in a combat situation. Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see how this affects Anglo-North American relations.
