Adobe Creative Cloud Services Offline (Again?) 164

New submitter jvp (27996) writes "Adobe's authentication system for its Creative Cloud as well as its website services is down, and has been since Wednesday (14 May) afternoon. What this means: If you're a Creative Cloud subscriber, you can't log into your account via the desktop application. Online services such as the fonts are not available. Applications (eg: Photoshop, Premiere, etc) will continue to work. Softpedia has a nice article on it, but their time frames are off quite a bit." As of this writing, a message on the Adobe Creative Cloud page says "Creative Cloud is currently undergoing maintenance. Please check back later. Thank you for your patience." Even though I've come to like some remote-hosted software, like gmail, I don't think I'd want tools for manipulating local media tied even loosely to the uptime of a remote computer (or network connection).

Exactly. Microsoft doesn't want to update it fine, release the source and let someone else do it. I have machines still on Service Pack 2 that have never had any issues.
(yes I have anti-virus and scan with anti-malware)

XP works fine, has some features I like better than 7 and works on tons of machines that don't need to go to the landfill. I have at least 10 boxes that will never be upgraded and I don't have any issues. I will never put linux on these machines. Linux is completely over rated and useless to me.

Most of this crap is FUD. Look after your network and don't be stupid on the web. Simple.

You sir win the internets!!

I agree wholeheartedly. There is not now, nor will there ever be, a reason to have all computers facing the internet without a router. IPv6 has been a collossal (sp?) waste of resources.

I tried a dumb little experiment the other week. I'm not retarded, I've been playing with computers since 1994.

I thought I'd be "smart" and use the second port on my isp supplied router for gaming. The port is there for x-box and the like. Thought I'd get a better ping. My wife likes watching videos while I play WoT.

Guess what? Virus like RIGHT NOW!!! I have antivirus, firewall and hosts file. I don't download anything sketchy, yet I was owned in no time.

I changed back to my router, which is behind their router, cleaned out my system and haven't had any issues since. I now use qos from my switch. (Yes I realize I should have done that first).

So by going through two routers I have no need for an ipv6 address and I can do anything I need to do including online gaming. People hate change naturally and there's no way people will change for NO REAL REASON!!! I have been saying this for 8 years now.

What really pissed me off was, that I bought the game on CD but still had to go to Steam to activate it!!?? WTF? I didn't want to play online or with other people. Steam didn't need to be involved at all.

I see that Steam is the new Linux around here, but I won't play anything from their site just like I won't use Linux for anything either.

What I do play is World of Tanks. Installed without a hitch, works perfectly, and I don't have to give all my personal info away.

I hate steam. Won't play any of their games.
I tried one steam game and the entire experience was a farce. Yes, that's all it took, bought a cd, had to use steam, game screwed up and lost sound. Couldn't fix it. Bye Steam. DIAF.
The best game I found in years though is World of Tanks. I've upgraded my PC for better graphics.
I will always game on a PC. Consoles to me are so 80's.

How about the people that read the Bible and don't listen to God?
Many "religious" people are basically frauds. They take the parts of the Bible that suit them and ignore the really important stuff.
Jesus said, "Many are called, but few are chosen."

This is the most damning of all in my opinion:

Matthew 7
21 Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name? 23 And then I will declare to them, I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!

Just because someone says they are believers of God, doesn't mean they really are. I am a follower of Jesus Christ. The proof of that is in my life. My actions alone.

Psalm 14:1

The fool has said in his heart,
There is no God.

Peace. Let the flaming begin....

Flash Is Dead; Long Live OpenFL! 166

First time accepted submitter lars_doucet writes "I am a 15-year Flash veteran and nobody hates to say this more than me: Flash is dying, and the killer is Adobe. Where to now? HTML5 doesn't help me with native targets, and Unity is proprietary just like Flash was — 'don't worry, we'll be around forever! And so sorry about that neglected bug report — we're busy.' I'm putting my bets on OpenFL, a Haxe-based, fully open-source implementation of the Flash API that might just please both Flash refugees and longtime Flash haters alike. My article discusses my experiences with it and gives a brief overview for newcomers. In short: I can keep making Flash games if I want, but with the same codebase I can also natively target Win/Mac/Linux desktops, mobile, and more, without having to mess with Adobe AIR or other virtual machines."

Submission + - Dice Holdings has written off Slashdot Media at the close of 2013 (prnewswire.com) 3

moogla writes: Apparently Dice.com could not make Slashdot work they way they wanted to; with a murky plan to tap into the Slashdot-reader community to somehow drive attention or insight into other Dice Holdings properities, they've burned through

$7.2 million of intangible assets and $6.3 million of goodwill related to Slashdot Media

and have only started to realize some improvement on related sites. With ad revenue declining and not expected to pick up (read: everyone who uses Slashdot uses adblocking softwarwe), it appears that the Slashdot stewardship experiment by Dice Holdings has been a financial failure. Since the site has been redesigned in a user-hostile fashion with a very generic styling, this reader surmises Dice Holdings is looking to transform or transfer the brand into a generic Web 3.0 technology property. The name may be more valuable than the user community (since we drive no revenue nor particularly use Dice.com's services).
