Submission + - Safari and Page Load Rendering

Lotunggim Ginsawat writes: "Is Safari really that fast as claimed by many people including Apple. Mark "Tarquin" Wilton-Jones takes a peek at the beta version of Safari for Windows to check whether those claims are true. From the article:- No. Safari is not slow. It is still a very fast browser, but it is certainly not as fast as it has been claimed to be. This is not an excuse for other browsers, and it is not a complaint. It is simply a warning; do not rely on performance benchmarks in Safari. They are wrong if they ever use JavaScript to detect page load times, which most of them do. Until the Webkit project can fix these problems, Safari benchmarks are not accurate or reliable."

Submission + - BBC chooses Microsoft DRM platform (bbc.co.uk)

bazorg writes: The BBC chose Microsoft's DRM technology to limit for 30 days the viewing of content downloaded from their website. These downloads would allow viewers to catch up on shows that were broadcast on the previous 7 days, and they would be compatible with Windows Media Player 10 and 11 and a new product called "iPlayer". This iPlayer is not yet available for platforms other than MS Windows, which caused the Open Source Consortium (OSC) to file a complaint to national and EU authorities on competition.
