Comment app store star system (Score 1) 248

i've seen this in app store reviews a lot. the xkcd jokes are so spot on its ridiculous. People use 1 star to complain about everything. and i mean everything. not only that they see the star system as a kind of tech support line. "didn't work. fix then i'll re-rate" well wth didn't work. i have no clue. you didn't contact support so we could help you. i don't know if its our ADHD society or just the way things are moving. Good reviews are usually 4-5 stars made by people that either had little problems, no problems or communicated with the company the resolve a problem. "downloaded, no issues, great product", "downloaded, but hiccup on install, still a great product." "wouldnt install. contacted support they fixed it up"

if you are a "free" app in the apple app store people use it to complain about your "price" so i don't put things for free on the apple app store anymore. i want someone who purchased my app to review it. and i mean purchased it. not just downloaded it.

The google one is even worse. i can purchase the product, immediately return it for a full refund AND leave a review. wth. so if you really really really hate an app have you and your 10-20 friends buy and refund the app and then leave a 1 star review.

i really wish the star rate would change slightly. 3.75 stars with 80% being above 3 stars tells me a lot more then 3.75 stars

because movie tickets are incredibly high. 1500 yen approx $20(american) for 1 ticket. plus movie theatres arent are close to you as they are in america. so you often have to pay 500 yen or approx $7 for a train ticket to get there. so yours talking $27 dollars per person to see a movie. wait a while then goto geo (very close and affordable) and rent it for 350 yen for a new release or wait even longer and eventually get it for 100 yen for a weeks rental. rip it with handbrake and makemkv. why would i spend $4 on an itunes rental (or similiar)

sneaker net still faster then the fastest internet, since forever.

I HAVE used it. first comment after getting it was "hey this thing is pretty fast" then as i began to develop for it i notices things. 20gig of the 64 gigs are used for the OS. umm why? the device(s) i have all lose touches, hold on to touches, or at times are generally not responsive to touches. there are 4 buttons on the top or side that seem to do things randomly. i honestly have been using it for a month still dont know what they do. every corner being a non-disable hot corner gets really annoying fast, especially for games, where do you put the buttons? in the middle of the screen where the action is? also there dev panel needs a lot of work, seriously a LOT of work. everytime i need to sign to upload to the store i have to call my manager over since i cant sign directly. he cant give me privledges for signing. wtf. also there are just some things you can NOT do without using the old windows xp/vista/7 interface which on the touch screens is really really freaking annoying, since you dont have the accuracy of a mouse and no right click.

umm unless education suddenly changed in the US. the avg freshmen in college is 18 years of age. and this too might have changed but last time i was in america the legal age to be considered an adult was 18. so they are no longer children. also why is no one thinking of the professors and campus staff? the "children" spend 4 years there. professors and staff spend their lives there.

live in japan so cant get hbo. would buy the dvds but they dont sell them here. would be even more inclined to buy them if they had japanese language and subtitles. but because the show is so interesting to me and i feel its moving too slow for my tastes i have purchased the offical "hbo licensed" books which are just reprints of the normal books. so i guess in a way i'm format shifting which is perfectly legal.

that documentation is old and out of date. i routinely have to make new itunes accounts for testing and never have seen this "none" option is the past 6 months. it is either regional (as i live in japan) or they keep that documentation up just to make people think they can create an itunes account without a credit card.

in fact i just tried that. and following their documenation from itunes 10.6.1 on mac there is no "none" option. i am forced to enter a credit card in order to create an account.

american but i live in Japan. I would have paid $50 for me and my wife (even though she hates "war" movies and doesnt speak english) to go see this movie in the theater but they didnt want a world wide release. did the same for sherlock holmes 2. so i pre-rented the movie. watched it now. when it comes out on DVD i'll rent it and just not watch it. rentals her cheap here too. approx $1.25 sometimes they have half price weekends too. now if i were a parent i'd be pissed if my kid lost $48.75.
