Submission + - Scrum Points vs. Billable Hours

matt writes: "We have been having a heated discussion at my company regarding a recent push by management to implement a time tracking system completely separate from Scrum. Management's intention is to be able to more accurately track billable hours, but some team members feel that by doing so, it will go against all things holy (Scrum-wise) and only hurt the development/creative process. Do any Scrum teams also use a time tracking system to track billable hours separately from Scrum points? If so, how well has it worked for you?"

If I were you, I'd consider looking into the new hosting platforms built on cloud environments.

You should be able to find some online web hosts who charge per-use in a clustered environment so you don't have to bother about setting up your own EC2 servers (or whatever) yourself. Leave it to the experts as it were.

Some places to check out:
RightScale
ScaleMySite
GoGrid

My company uses a cloud hosting provider and it's been great not even thinking about architecture as our website hosting needs have grown.

Submission + - Recovery.gov Blocks Search Engines - Conspiracy? (mattbeckman.com)

Matt Beckman writes: "The government website Recovery.gov had been using a special file to prevent search engines from indexing web page content. Hailed by our new president as a step towards government transparency, the robots.txt file would prevent any content from appearing in search results. Is this simply a mistake by the developers or is it a carefully considered move to avoid accountability?"
It's funny. Laugh.

XKCD Improving the Internet ... Yet Again 204

netbuzz writes "Comic creator Randall Monroe suggested in a recent xkcd strip that YouTube comments would be better — or, more precisely, less idiotic — if only those posting them were forced to hear their words read aloud first. Well, YouTube has gone and made this "audio preview" a reality, albeit an optional one. And, it's not the first time that xkcd has contributed to the betterment of the Internet, as those who are familiar with last year's "Internet census" and its use of a Hilbert curve may remember."

Submission + - TicketMaster files suit against RMG Technologies (financialhealthzone.com)

Matt Beckman writes: "Following up the story from last week. Ticketmaster has filed suit against the small software company RMG Technologies because, they say, RMG's software allows users to acquire tickets quickly and easily, providing a method for dealers to scalp tickets for popular venues. In their latest press release, Ticketmaster says a Federal Court has granted their request for an injunction against RMG Technologies, saying they are "committed to ensuring that consumers have fair and equitable access to tickets." Ticketmaster employed similar techniques against Cleveland Cavaliers after the Cavaliers launched a web site allowing season-ticket holders to resell or give-away unused tickets."
