Comment Tried Talking To Women? (Score 1) 950

All the poor woe is me, women are horrible crap I see is just sad and pathetic. Have you actually tried talking to women like they were people? Not a goal to be achieved or a trophy, but actual people with interests and feelings and goals of their own? I know this is a radical thought, but it works. Or at least, it worked for me: my wife of twelve years was the busty cheerleader in school.

It literally costs me nothing to walk out my front door, walk a couple miles into town, and then walk along the river. I can stop for a cup of coffee or a beer on the way. Or the local library, where I can find a book to read that costs me nothing. I have never taken that walk without finding something new on the route to fascinate me.

Can't go outside during the day because of work? That's cool. Go outside when you get home and sit perfectly still, listening carefully for the sounds around you. Your ears will reveal all kinds of things going on that you never knew. The first time I did it I found three rodents in the grass within five feet of me. One was literally at the base of the rock I was sitting on.

But seriously, if you view life as hopeless, you should seek professional help. If you can't afford it, find a church or church like structure. The social interaction will help you. Try the going outside options I mentioned. You're not in a healthy mental space, so you need to change the reality of the world around you.

Wish I could mod this up. But it's falling on fallow ground here. Most of the commenters will reject it because they approach interactions with the opposite gender with a negative bias. The notion of a loving relationship with another person is just beyond their ability to comprehend.

Amen to that. Somebody looking for the 23 year old who will work through the weekend regularly, or thinks 11 hour days should be the norm, isn't going to be very happy working with me. Because there's a simple calculus: money is just a means to an end, and that end is a warm bed with my wife in it. What are they going to offer that's more compelling than my goal?

Comment Excellent Book (Score 1) 167

The book Woodworking With Your Kids http://www.amazon.com/Woodwork... has a misleading title. The kids in question are actually kids in his community and his school. The author set up a community and school workshop back in 1970 on a shoestring budget. He was teaching kids to make some pretty impressive furniture before they were old enough to drive.

We have additional tools now, but the same approach to setting up a maker space would still work.
