Here's a possible first for y'all. My county library system (well, just Estecada and West Linn, but you can put holds on the items so anyone in the county can acess them) has Playstation, Playstation II, and Game Boy Advance games avalable for check out. And they have some pretty good games also, like "Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec", "Gran Turismo 2", "Spiderman" for the PSX, PS2, and GBA, and more games. And now my question to my readers: Do your local libraries have video games avalable for checking out?

Alright. I have been using Linux on my dad's computer (Red Hat Distro), and I have a problem. Both of the CD players that are on there (the one that came with KDE and the one that came with GNOME) both suck.

I can't get the KDE one to work, and the GNOME doesn't have the ability to edit your playlist (as in skip these tracks). I hate to say this, but the CD player software that came with Windows 9x is better. So, I'm asking you, my reader(s): do you have a reccomendation for a good software for playing CDs for Linux (I don't know, LinAmp, if it exists)?

Well, I played golf at the Special Olympics State Championships and placed Gold in my division. Also, I picked up a copy of the game "Feng Shui", published by Atlas Games. I have also managed to get a group togeather for said game, though we've only met once. I haven't scheduled another time because of our first sessions proximity to a Camping trip, and I didn't want to get it started only to have a pause for the trip.

What else... Well, I'm going camping next week. I'm also teaching myself C. And finally, I've started reading the comic MegaTokyo. I don't need to really give you the link, as the site's adverstized here (in fact, I discovered the comic through a banner ad). I reccomend it completely. However, don't just go to the site, click on a banner ad for it and support /. already!

Well, today I went to Fry's to get my refurbished USB Zip drive only to discover that they'd marked up the price by $40. I am pissed off, as that's two month's paychecks for me. Well. Looks like I'm going to have to find some more odd jobs to do so I can hopefully make upt the difference before the start of the school year.

This will also, unfortunatly, make it so it'll take longer for me to get some of the RPG book I want to get so I can actually get into a group. As it is, I have a bad feeling that, once the school year begins, I won't be able to do any Role Playing at all. So all in all, I've been forced to miss my window to get into a RPG group.

Well, backing up my hard drive has become an option, my dear readers. I have managed to get a short term job painting my neighbor's house, and recived a tax-fre $40. That cash is going to go directly to, with the $15 I've already saved up, to buy a used USB zip drive, and thus be able to copy enough files to clear one of my partitions, and install on said partition, Linux.

As of the time I am writing this message, on Mystery on PBS they are showing the first part of their new miniseries, "The Dark Beginnings of Sherlock Holmes". the series looks very promising, and the acting is very good. Though I must admit, I did not envision Arthur Conan Doyle with a Irish accent.

Alright, I've finished the episode, though I'm not going to spoil anything, I will say that the episode had some humerous moments, and the actor who played Dr. Joseph Bell was very good. However, he didn't have that many real Holmes moments, but that's okay. Doyle certainly reflected Watson. The ultimate solution to the episode certainly caught me absolutely by suprise. However, the writers, like Agatha Christie and even Arthur Conan Doyle himself, cheated. They left out a couple of important pieces of information which would have allowed us to have come to the conclusion at the same time as Bell did. However, I am certainly looking forward to the next episode of the series, and I reccomend it to all you slashdotters who enjoy an entertaining mystery.

Alright my marvelous readers. I have a request for information from you. I am considering switching from the two Windows computers I am currently using, to one Linux and one PC. The version of Linux I am considering using is Lindows.

My main questions are:

1. Will my Windows and DOS games work in Lindows?
2. In the process of the switch, will I lose or risk losing my MP3s and Music Videos and so forth that I've downloaded going bye-bye?
3. Will I risk any programs that I've downloaded and installed going bye-bye also?

I might as well tell you a little about my self. I'm a high school student in Oregon, I'm a fan of SF (I prefer to call it in text instead of Sci-Fi), I watch anime, I listen to classic rock, and I'm a fan of wrestling. I also don't think Bill Gates is the antichrist, don't like KoRn, and don't have a connection faster than 56K.

I had heard about Slashdot, but what really encouraged me to venture forth hereis Jon Katz's book "Geeks", which I feel is an excellent book, and anyone who says otherwise is entitled to their opinion.

I'll let you know in advance, I'm not good at really organizing myself, so my updates will be really infrequent.

I figure I'll start out my journal with a movie review. I recently saw the movie "UHF" again. It is a hilariously funny movie starring "Weird" Al Yankoivc, and Michael Richards (more commonly known from his role on "Seinfield"). Al plays George Newman, a fellow geek who gets made station manager of a UHF station by his Uncle. The station was on the verge of bankruptcy for years, but George makes it the biggest station in town with oddball and bizarre programming.

This film is a good family movie (aside from one scene), and I reccomend it to anyone who finds "Weird" Al's music funny, and is enjoy's rather odd comedy. The film is out now on DVD (I got it at my local Fry's for $9.50), and is rated PG-13.
