Comment RIM is still golden (Score -1, Troll) 197

It's just a transition period for RIM. They have a diverse portfolio and deep pockets along with a huge stable of talent. I think they're just being slammed in the American media because they're a successful Canadian company that can go toe to toe with Google and Apple.

Submission + - As Microsoft Antitrust Ends, Chromebook Unveiled (computerworld.com)

CWmike writes: "A U.S. court's antitrust oversight of Microsoft is ending after eight and a half years, but some observers question what the long fight accomplished. The DOJ, in a statement released Wednesday, hailed the antitrust case, which started in 1998, as good for the competitive landscape in the IT market. The antitrust judgment protected the development and distribution of middleware and allowed consumers to have choices, the DOJ said. 'The final judgment ... prevented Microsoft from continuing the type of exclusionary behavior that led to the original lawsuit,' the DOJ said. 'Microsoft no longer dominates the computer industry as it did when the complaint was filed in 1998.' The case may have impacted browsers only a little, but isn't it ironic that oversight of Microsoft expires on the very same week that Google unveiled its anti-OS Chromebook."

Submission + - IT Distrust Of Outsourcing Is Shockingly High (itworld.com)

jfruhlinger writes: "With outsourcing having been a part of the IT landscape for so long, you'd think people would have had time to get comfortable with it, but apparently not. According to a recent survey, 68 percent of organizations that outsource don't see the promised cost savings, and 77 percent believe that the outsourcing agencies are inventing work to pad their bills."

Submission + - RIM debuts screenless BlackBerry (zdnet.com.au)

pjh3000 writes: "We know our strengths & our strengths are email and our keyboard," said RIM designer Elliot Pouce at the press launch for the company's new mobile phone, the Dauntless. "This whole touchscreen thing is a fad. In fact, the whole screen thing is a fad." The Dauntless eliminates the need for a screen by having haptic response built into the keyboard each keystroke is confirmed using Morse code-patterned vibrations.

The average Windows user doesn't know how to run as Admin in Windows 7. The Admin account is hidden by default. Oh, you didn't know that? And the backwards compatibility you speak of is only in the Pro version, not the Home version. Face it, you don't actually have a point to make, you just wanted to bash Windows. Is this typical of Mac Users?

Submission + - Company offers to buy your GPU cycles (i-programmer.info) 1

mikejuk writes: Compute4Cash is offering to pay real money for your unwanted GPU cycles. All you have to do is download its utility program and it starts to clockup Work Units that you get paid for. It's an intriguing idea — but what does it intend to compute with your hardware? Is it paying you less than the cost of the electricity used to run the card?
What if your GPU is cracking passwords in its spare time?
