Journal Journal: Question for Inuyasha Fans 1

I kinda got sucked into this show after leaving Adult Swim on TV at night. My question is - why is Kagome's family so OK with her jumping down a well into a demon filled feudal era 500 years in the past? Not to mention rarely going to school? Is it just progressive parenting? Is there some sort of history in the family and the well? I don't know why this is such a sticking point for me, yet here I am. Is there any good way to see backstory to all the stuff that's currently on AS?

Journal Journal: A PS2 Related Public Service Announcement 1

If anyone gets a 2004 Holiday Demo Disc in the mail from Sony, be careful. The Viewtiful Joe 2 demo can (and apparently will) wipe out whatever memory card is in your PS2. I received this email from them about it:

Dear PlayStation(R) Underground Member,

You are scheduled to receive the Holiday 2004 Demo Disc including the playable Viewtiful Joe 2 - please take note. It has just been brought to our attention that there is a glitch in this demo which will erase all of your saved files from your Memory Card(s). If you have not yet played the Viewtiful Joe 2 demo, please remove your Memory Card(s) from your PlayStation(R) 2 computer entertainment system before you load the Holiday 2004 Demo Disc.

Sony Computer Entertainment America would like to express our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Journal Journal: Zonk? 1

http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=04/09/28/2012202&tid=207&tid=193

Did I miss a memo or something? Who's Zonk (the story poster)?

Got X-Men Legends [flash] for Gamecube last week for anyone that's interested in that sort of thing. It's pretty rad - a couple repetitive levels, but it can be a good time killer to play with a couple friends and tear up Sentinels. I've only played one of the "flashback" levels (Weapon X), but it seems like you can't play them again once you do them which sucks.

Journal Journal: 4 Post Racks 1

Where would a person go to find a reasonably priced 4 post, open frame rack (in the range of 18U to 24Uish)? Every single racks-are-our-business.com site seems a little fishy to me; I need the insight of someone who has looked for this before.

Journal Journal: The precious sanctity of online auctions 5

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=62053&item=8122008245&rd=1 (or here for a cap of it)

I really doubt "jamesyencken" is going to pay the $2,000,000+ dollars he's promising for that copy of Doom 3. I don't want to live in a world where one anonymous stranger is unable to make an obscene profit from an auction on a newly released game just because another anonymous stranger decides to bid decidedly silly amounts with no intention of paying. Truly sad.

I rented the movie Hellboy a couple nights ago. Was it just me or is that film pretty awful?

Journal Journal: freeipods.com - Have we already been through this? 2

I'm sure someone has already brought this up, but a site called freeipods.com is causing quite a stir promising a free ipod to anyone who will participate in a random offer (get an account on Ebay and bid, sign up for AOL or ancestry.com, etc.) and get five friends to do the same. Seems scammy and chain letterish, but if anyone wants to follow the drama, watch this thread and see if anyone ever actually receives their ipod.

And yes, I'm a sucker. Here's my referral link. Join in teh stupidity if you get the urge.

Journal Journal: Is Jboss really as complicated as it looks? 1

Today I had a Jboss/Tomcat linux box dropped in my lap to support. I can't figure out what the hell I'm doing with it. Does anyone have some good links on how to do the "simple" stuff (virtual servers etc)? My only real webserver experience is with Apache, and the only thing the dropee showed me was the location of the config files. Any info appreciated.

I hope everyone is doing well, by the way. I haven't said anything in a looong time.

Journal Journal: Wow. Journals have been more dramatic than 90210 this week. 4

Is there something in the collective water? I have no intention of leaving (because I've got nothing better to do, not because I think slashdot is number one super fun awesome site). I don't know or think about what people on my friends list think of me. I didn't even know LG had breasts. Job sucks, but whose doesn't? A new mame came out yesterday, so I'm content and downloading.

Maybe I need higher life standards.

Journal Journal: Kill Bill or How To Manipulate Time Through Cinema

Seriously, could this movie drag itself out any longer? It's no wonder he had to split it in to two movies - for every second of actual movie there's a padding of about 10 seconds more on either side of it. Lots of great references, some pretty cool fight scenes, nifty camera work and nice little nuances from the actors, but this was the longest 2 hour film I've seen in a very long time, and I saw Dreamcatcher (hint: Dreamcatcher has poop monsters - and they aren't even funny!). I'm sure I'll still go see the second volume, but damn.

Also, on a completely unrelated note, if anyone has any idea how to manipulate WS-FTP Server on winnt to list complete path names (i.e. /winnt/system32/filename.exe instead of just filename.exe) when doing a directory listing on the client side, I'd like to hear about it.
