The aim of the release is to notify the media of Thompson's new goal: proving the existence of collusion between the gaming industry and the Department of Defense in an effort to train more efficient killers."

Live Gamer is partnering with MMO publishers including Funcom, Sony Online Entertainment, Acclaim and GoPets in an effort to "legitimize the existing virtual economy." Among Live Gamer's founders is Mitch Davis, former CEO of in-game advertising company Massive Inc. (now part of Microsoft). Live Gamer and its well-heeled VC backers are wagering that the growth of virtual exchanges — along with the explosion in gold farming — will pressure more publishers to establish sanctioned trading."

wbt_crawler writes: Shacknews reports that Jeff Gerstmann, long-standing executive editor at CNET-owned major video game site GameSpot, was fired after giving a generally unimpressed review of Io Interactive's Kane & Lynch: Dead Men. Gerstmann awarded the game a 6.0.

According to the reports, the layoff came after Kane & Lynch publisher Eidos took issue with the review and threatened to pull its considerable ad contract. GameSpot's front page is currently almost entirely re-skinned with Kane & Lynch imagery.

While the written review of the game can still be viewed here, Jeff Gerstmanns video review of the game has already been taken offline by GameSpot.

An anonymous reader writes: Google trying to be proactive with site protection is causing grief to users. Users are often presented with the message "We're sorry... ... but we can't process your request right now. A computer virus or spyware application is sending us automated requests, and it appears that your computer or network has been infected. We'll restore your access as quickly as possible, so try again soon. In the meantime, you might want to run a virus checker or spyware remover to make sure that your computer is free of viruses and other spurious software. We apologize for the inconvenience, and hope we'll see you again on google." Users are not getting support from Google on this issue and most do not have said spyware or virus infections on their computers. Not even Microsoft is this paranoid~
