I'm by no means a plan 9 expert, but as far as I see, the paradigm that everything is a byte stream is a bit of a dead end idea. Something like everything is an object or some such paradigm is much more interesting. Sure, UNIX and it's ilk, with everything as a byte stream was a great advance on what came before. But a stream of bytes is inherently too low an abstraction to build everything on. Waiting for the day when an object database or something like it is at the heart of a modern popular OS.

IANAL, but there is such a thing as negative inference. In other words if you don't produce evidence that you could or should be able to produce, the judge has to assume the worst. So if they delete evidence, the judge has to assume that had it been produced, it would have been worst case for you.

My MacBook Pro 17" 2011 failed in the last couple of months. Fortunately it was in the last few months of apple care. It was hard to diagnose though because it was intermittent.

This is not exactly freedom of expression. The guy was busted telling a lie. There is no reason to suppose there is an absolute human right to go around telling lies. You might think the lie is justified, or you might think telling lies is ok. Well that's fine as an opinion, but telling lies is not a noble pursuit, even if his end goal was worthy ( which in itself is questionable. What institution is beyond the reach of liers and scammers?). Pretty much ALL societies ban certain kinds of lies.

How crappy is an OS that makes you run a hidden command from the terminal, with obscure lists of processes to turn off the bloat? At least in OSX there is an easy and intuitive way to see what is being started on login and turn it off if you want.

I don't know that anybody was saying C was better than C++. What they might have been saying is that C libraries are better as system libraries because they are easier to integrate into various languages. It's easier and more sensible to make a Python or Java or Scheme or whatever interface to a C library than a C++ one.

Good doesn't want you abandoning their mapping for.. oh say Apple maps. They want you coming for information from them. That's why this move makes little sense.

Has there been a revelation that the NSA sends US data overseas to avoid the rules? I don't remember that revelation coming out, although I wouldn't put it past them.
