So you end up with the choice between a more compact layout, firing a bunch of people, or moving to the burbs.

I vote for Moving to the burbs!!! I fucking hate to have to haul my ass in a stinking subway to a big fucking polluted city full of people every day.

Why do we all have to cram ourselves in office towers when at the same time guys in fucking Bangalore can work on the same systems as us?

Why not create smaller satellite offices all over the country and go to the nearest?

Or you do like any other civilized country (you know, those who have free healthcare) and you do transactions with a chip card.

Then you must have a pinpad attached to the cash register that communicates with the chip, validates the PIN, and encrypt the transaction before sending it to the cash register attached to it.

The pinpad is owned and controlled by the acquiring company and/or the bank offering the acquiring services, the store can't do anything with it.

That way the general purpose computer masquerading as a cash register can't even log the credit card number because everything is encrypted.

It is legal to not wear a seat belt in the back seat in many jurisdictions, and the regulation where it is required is enforced in even fewer.

You're right, and I find that quite strange.

Maybe some legislators need an update on the laws of physics, and the facts that they apply to all the car and not just the front seats.

The colon is no longer used, we only put one at the end of each paragraph (procedure).

Parsing XML in COBOL is very easy. You use the XML PARSE command in a loop. Each time the parser finds an XML tag it return control to your program, giving you the tag name, attribute(s) and value. You process it, then call the parser again until the end of the document.

Likewise, generating a complex XML document in COBOL is done by defining the hirarchical structure in a copybook, assigning values, and then calling a single command: XML GENERATE.

It's very easy, and very fast.

No. Christians claim that there's a very specific condition. John 3:16

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Well, I believe that there really was a guy named Jesus who made a lot of fuss a couple of thousands of years ago, he's a real historical figure.

Am I covered now? I'll have eternal life? Please?

I said that parents brainwash their children with their religion, is that not so? Where is the choice for that children?

How can HE chose what to believe when his figure of authority (his parents) impose their views on him at an age where he can't form his own opinion?

Personnaly I don't impose anything on my own kids. I answer frankly to any question they ask me, but they'll have to decide what they believe themselves.

I'm mostly atheist, was agnostic for a good part of my life, but these days I'm of the opinion that the idea of a supreme being makes no sense. And if we're in a simulation (a distinct possibility), I would not call the creator of this simulation god, he's just a sentient being probably way out of our understanding, but he's not a god.
