Youre going to get the following advice :
1. Hire a professional to run/manage/accountant/payroll etc and you can never do anything properly.
2. Youre an idiot - stop dreaming!
Both pieces of advice are flat out wrong.
To start an actual business you dont need professionals, funding or being extra smart. What you do need to do is not listen to idiots and learn. thats it.

Heres what you do :
1. Start your business. That is - go out into the world and find someone willing to pay you CASH MONEY in large chunks for doing something. Thats at least $2000 cash on delivery of x product.
2. Put that $2000 towards your business expenses. Now go find a lawyer who incorporates businesses federally with $2000 AND make sure you have enough of it left over for a mailboxes etc address, domain name, google apps subscription for mail, web address, business cellphone and rental meeting room in a office rental place. This is your "Start up capital" or "Seed round".
3. Now go develop that product yourself. Send it to your client. be prepared to gain $0 from this transaction since your client will likely dump you after seeing that first product.
4. Develop the product some more while looking for other clients.
5. If you find any, congratulations ! You have a business!

This is how I started several years ago. Bottom line is in 2 weeks you must be break even and in the first month you must have enough to meet payroll. If you do youre fine.

You need to adopt a defense in depth approach similar to computer security.
First you need to block all breakins through windows. install aluminum shutters on all your windows from the inside with remote motors. These run about $200 including labor for a window, manufactured in germany and installed locally.
Then replace your doors with steel commercial fire rated doors. these are over an inch thick and put digital locks on the doors, preferably Kaba Mas which are DoD compliant. The doors run around $1000 including labor.
Thirdly put IP cameras with built in recording. DVRs are too easy to steal. Use Trendnet IP522Ps with built in SD cards. You can also use axis. Make sure you cover all approaches and remove any trees shrubs etc.
Make sure you have 6 ft high fences around your property or whatever the highest available fence height is from your local minicipal regs. behind the fence create a 4 ft buffer zone and plant cacti such as ocotillo. This will deter fence jumpers.
Finally put a vista 20P alarm system you can get cheaply off ebay for $250 or so with panel alarm and sensors. The motion detectors are $10 - $20, the glass break sensors are cheap and door sensors are like $5. Install a GSM board and find a cheap local security company to monitor it.

For all the non lawyers at /. this may seem a travesty but this is such a brilliant piece of legal work by the prosecutor. Not only has he become famous -- instantly, he has a shot at changing the way the country functions and has managed to get untouchable people to be touched. Plus he has managed to get attention from the international community and the heads of his state. I expect that he has a good shot at putting the scientists behind bars after which he will move on to a well deserved legal career as a lawmaker. Expect solid career advancement as he might end up in the Italian cabinet one day.
Consider the response of all the international media AND the scientist organizations -- Scientists prosecuted for failed earthquake predictions. OMG !
Consider what is actually in the prosecutors complaint -- Scientists failed to communicate risks clearly as per their legal duties, which were attached to them as a result of their jobs.
A truly brilliant prosecution. With a good shot at changing the planet in a small way. With a tiny lever, great changes can be achieved.

the toshiba 4S is a sodium metal reactor. take that and shove it 30m underground to produce 10MW of power. awesome.

and you need 1200 of them to even come close to meeting demand.
and 1200 x 100s of days of regulatory paperwork is much more than 2-4 conventional plants with 100s of days of paperwork each.
not to mention environmental impact assessments at EACH SITE for EACH of those 1200 reactors.

the toshiba design needs to use lead and be rebuilt. the legal process needs to change which will take longer than it takes to build conventional plants. in short... NO.

yay we dont shuttle your half assed astronauts to low earth orbit so they can sit there and stare out at the earth from the ISS portholes for six months at a shot.

its not like the ISS is doing anything critical or military related. the military stuff will still launch on delta iv heavy boosters off vandy or the cape.
the ISS can also sit there parked in orbit for years with no one on board. its not like its going to fall down cuz joe blow astronaut was not up there to go out and shove it back up the gravity well or something. hell there were plans to shut the whole stupid lame ass project down anyway. its a white elephant. no commercial value, minimal scientific value compared to robotic probes and basically worthless for long term space exploration due to its placement in low earth orbit.
now build a tanking platform with robotic spacecraft construction/assembly/food production/power generation/roid mining gear at lagrange points l1/l2 for staging earth/moon/mars/europa missions and that makes much more sense.

I have the same problem. I am not in a restrictive country, however my phone lines are tapped on a regular basis since i deal with defendants. its not paranoia -- they really do tap phones of attorneys to get around atty/client and ive seen the records more than once. I use an SSH connection to a tomatousb router (ASUS RT-N16) and forward ports to my N810. you can do the same with your N900. this allows me to do VOIP directly and also share the same connection locally by letting my N810 serve as a local hotspot. All traffic is encrypted with SSH until it reaches my home which is on a dynamic ip anyway. This has worked against local and fed agencies but may not work against NSA/big brother type agencies or against foreign government state departments. You need a fast upload connection (my 25/2 Mbps cable connection works fine). For anything more than the usual calls i meet people in person at the office. meeting in person is covered by priv and works well.

How this actually works :
The Challenge in Achieving Full-Duplex

The problem that has historically prevented full-duplex is that, when a node transmits, its own signal is millions of times stronger than other signals it might hear: the node is trying to hear a whisper while shouting. The challenge is canceling the node's own transmitted signal (shout) from what it receives (whisper). Existing approaches, such as digital cancellation and noise cancellation circtuis, can cancel some of the transmitted signal, reducing its strength, but not enough to make a node able to receive.

Antenna Cancellation

Our design uses two transmit antennas one receive antenna per node. The transmit antennas send the same data and the receive antenna is placed such that there is destructive interference from the two transmit antennas, thus reducing self-interference. Offsetting the two transmit signals by half of the wavelength causes them to cancel each other, creating a null position where the transmitted signal is much, much weaker.

Combining antenna cancellation with cancellation through a noise cancellation circuit gives ~50dB reduction in self-interference before the RF signal is demodulated and sampled to the digital domain. Digital cancellation removes the residual interference.

and what gave you the impression i dont ? If the SCADA systems interfacing to the PLC werent infected stuxnet would never have been able to reprogram the PLCs. Are you claiming Siemens' WinCC/PCS 7 on Windows platforms was NOT infected by stuxnet ? or that infecting the equivalent of s7otbxbx.dll on a unix would ever have been possible without root privileges ?
Maybe you should reevaluate your own knowledge of SCADAs and PLC systems.

the difference is basic stupidity. It was PHB stupidity which made the SCADA systems run windows - an operating system so unreliable the majority of servers are running a homegrown unix (linux) to ensure stability. If you insist on building your industrial infrastructure out of paper and cardboard, you should assume the first hurricane to come along will blow over your origami construction. A decent airgapped SCADA system running on any decent unix (heck just use a bunch of sun enterprise boxes on solaris to run it) would never be vulnerable to this sort of an attack. Build your industrial infrastructure on industrial equipment or face the consequences. since when is windows certified for running anything much less nuclear plants ???
